Guest guest
Hi Raj Date sugar seems to be one of those ingredients falling into the gray area between Legal and Illegal on SCD. It seems to be, at best, a very advanced ingredient that some may tolerate. Here is the link from the BTVC website: http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/knowledge_base/kb/date_sugar.htm Perhaps as dried fruits, such as dates, are considered moderately advanced, then dessicated fruits (as to make date sugar, you need to dehydrate the dates until quite hard, then grind or pulverise them) would be considered a much more advanced ingredient. Are you eating fresh dates (yellow orange in colour) or the dried dates (dark brown)? Date sugar is dried (hence concentrated) ground up dates. It's the concentration of the dates, dried and powdered, that is the problem. Dates by themselves, as long as you don't over do should be fine. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Thanks Licia and Marilyn for the info. I've been eating the dark brown dates and Lara bars which contain dates in them. I've never seen yellow orange dates.. Where do you get those? Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Raj The yellow/orange coloured dates are the fresh ones, just as grapes become raisins when they are dried. I have sometimes found them in shops selling middle-eastern groceries, and they are usually still attached to their branch. They should be legal, but its an unusual food item, and I do not know for certain. I may have to try them sometime when I find them again. They are crunchy and have a delicate sweetness. I've never tried using them in any way except eating them raw, but now I'm intrigued and getting ideas! Has anyone else had them? Guest guest
Hi Raj, Medjool dates, the dark brown ones that are soft, are fresh as well (as opposed to dried) and legal. In fact Elaine recommended these only. I am not sure about the yellow orange ones. As far as I know Medjool dates are the best, and the only ones that we are supposed to eat. I eat them often too. Sorry, but I haven't tried date sugar yet. - > > Hi, > > I noticed that date sugar is listed as illegal on http://www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info/legal/legal_illegal_d-n.htm > > But there really isn't any reason provided.
