Guest guest
, was born with bcf too, and only needed a tenetomy (at Dr. Ponseti's office) on her left foot. Her right foot just had enough dorsiflexion to not deem it necessary. I don't think that not having it (as long as the dorsiflexion is there) would be cause for a relapse. There are several parents that post here whose kids didn't have the tenetomy at all...I would be curious to know how many were bcf, and how many were r or lcf, though... Guest guest
, My son is almost 19 months old and never had a tenotomy. has been recasted, but was due to 1st Dr. not overcorrecting his feet. And the DBB was not set up right. We started seeing Dr. Ponseti in Sept. and he corrected his feet properly and did not feel he needed the tenotomy. That has been 5 months and his feet are great. He walks, runs, jumps, dances, climbs, goes up and down stairs. No relapse. This is the longest he has ever went without one. Hope this helps. Guest guest
no tenotomy for Darbi. Her foot is perfect! some need it, some don't. Most do though, about 85% of the children corrected with the Ponseti Method will need it. There is not any known increase for relapse without it, it's just a matter of if the tendon has the ability to stretch long enough to get and keep the foot at 5-15 degrees of dorsiflexion. My daughter has fantastic dorsiflexion, in fact a bit more than her non-affected foot. Funny huh?
