Hi all. I am new to the group, but I have been reading your

postings

for the last few weeks. I have had my braces on since March 2004, and

I have been anticipating my surgery since then. It is now becoming a

reality as I am scheduled for a lower advancement on

April 27th. Reading your messages have cleared up some of my

concerns,

but I do have some questions. First, I already plan to

stock up on Boost / Ensure, but is there any other necessities that I

should have on hand before going in to the hospital? I just want to

be

really prepared in order to make my first days home as easy as

possible. Also, my OS said that he would prescribe Motrin 800 for my

pain control once I come home. I am just concerned that it will not

be

enough to control the pain. I typically have a high pain tolerance,

but I don't want to be completely miserable. Any thoughts?

Go to the files section on the site. There is a file pre and post op

instructions that I found very helpful. There is a pre surgery

shopping list, etc. I just had my lower advanced on 3/31. Today I

am

pretty swelled up, but the pain in not unbearable. My OS gave me the

old tylenol with codene. My bottom lip and chin are completely numb,

and my throat is a bit sore from the breathing tube I imagine. I am

not banded but do have a splint. So far for me the throat is the

worst,

as it makes it difficult to swallow anything. Am having to grind up

my

meds and mix with something so they don't taste like you know what!!

Hopefully the swelling will start going the other way within the next

day or so. I get to take off the compression bandage tomorrow.
