Guest guest
This is my understanding of the whole thing. This information is however from a very traditional allergist who totally dismissed gfcf diet as having any validity so take it with a grain of salt (gf of course!) I think it has also been confirmed through what I've read in Food allergy network newsletters. We don't eat soy as a protein because (NT) is allergic to it and reacts with exczema/red face. With traditional allergies it's acceptable to use soy oil and soy lecithin since they don't contain the proteins and rarely cause a reaction in allergic individuals. I usually check on lecithin to make sure it's not egg. This of course may all change now that I am reading Karyn Seroussi's (I apologize for misspelling of name) book and am aware of type 2 allergies. I do have a memory of Connor and getting hives from Kelloggs Sugar Corn pops before Connor was gfcf and reading they may be cross contaminated with soy. After Connor tested negative for soy allergy the doctor dismissed any allergy. I am removing soy milk from Connor's diet (PDD_NOS) to check for an intolerance. Does this also mean avoiding soy oil and lecithin? Here we go again! (Boy, did you know your question would unlease such a torrent-this has all been on my mind lately! )Thank you for letting me know about the soy lecithin.
