Guest guest
Carol, You probably already know this, but just in case. For eczema, give her a bath, rub her down all over with Crisco and put her jammies on. Seriously. But then, you probably already know this. Ignore my big mouth. Mom to Tenny Continued FAB adjustment and bar length Our night last night was better, with not waking as much or seeming as restless. She still was up 4-5 times (don't really recall since we are co-sleeping so I just nurse her when she wakes up and don't even look at the clock). Still, it was an improvement. She still gets mad at not being able to put her legs together, particularly when I am rocking her to sleep and sometimes when nursing. I remeasured the bar length (the correct way, from the middle of one heel to the middle of the other from the screws), and it is 8 inches. I think this is the shortest bar that comes with the shoes since it is on the shortest setting. Longer did seem to make her even madder so I think this is the right length for us. Since her foot is still a bit red on the side and on her crazy big toe, I wrapped her foot in soft gauze (casting gauze) to see if that helps. She has sensitive skin so I think bandaids will irritate it. We are already dealing with a whole body eczema case and I don't want to do anything else to irritate her skin. Poor ! Guest guest
LOL ...yep, we have been the eczema route before since all four of my kids have had it. Crisco is cheaper than the pricy ointments and works as well, I'm sure. Never actually used it, but I did discover the Walmart brand of Aquaphor...a big tub for a few bucks. Thanks for the suggestion, though! Carol Continued FAB adjustment and bar length Our night last night was better, with not waking as much or seeming as restless. Guest guest
, Eczema is basically just severe dry skin. The trick to curing it (or treating it, anyway) is to hydrate the skin with a bath of plain water (no soap of any kind, since soap is drying but water is not), followed by a quick dry off and then, while the skin is still moist, a layer of cream/ointment/lotion to hold in the moisture. The reason that Crisco would work is that it would be a barrier to keep in the moisture, just like ointments. Vaseline works, too. I have found that you don't need the expensive ointments but just something which contains petroleum jelly to hold the moisture in. My kids have needed prescription creams to help the eczema at times but I always try the bath and then layering on creams first. I think we got the " eczema gene " at my house. Guest guest
My son had terrible exzema and finally I took him to a homeopath (which i can't say I believed in much). She tested him on a machine for food intolerances and she gave him this paper card (like a credit card) but made of paper with a strip on the back. It turns out it was pollen and orange juice and somehow she puts this on the card which he has to put against his skin for 2 minutes twice a day - I swear within 2 weeks he didn't have one patch on his body. Guest guest
I've read that exzema can be an indicator for allergies, so this wouldn't surprise me at all! My dad had horrible exzema, I have sensitive skin and can't wear my wedding ring because it gives me a rash on my finger, and we both have horrible allergies. Aleksander has minor exzema behing one leg only. It has been flaring up horribly right now since it finally got good and cold here. I'm going to try the Crisco tonight! And if that doesn't work, I'll ask Grace, our daycare provider, about a homeopath. She's big into that... Great idea though! I would have never thought of a homeopath. I was thinking of taking him to see my allergist... Aleksander, 11/24/04, bcf > > > > Carol, > > You probably already know this, but just in case. Guest guest
For us, eliminating dairy fixed Rylan's eczema. He's 5 now and still can't eat much cow milk stuff or he still breaks out with it. When he was an infant he would spit up all the time when he had cow milk stuff (or I had it as he breastfed). From what I've read eczema is actually a sign that you have a sensitivity to something, either food or environmental - detergents/soaps/softeners/perfumes...Just food for thought Marcia Continued FAB adjustment and bar length > > > Our night last night was better, with not waking as much or > seeming as restless. Guest guest
Yep, it seals in the moisture from the bath. And absorbs in itself. It does help. Guest guest
Sorry, wasn't clear, like the shortening kind. Not the oil. Guest guest
I don't think anything actually cures the eczema, least that is what I have been told. You either grow out of it, if you are a child, or you deal with it. Crisco is just cheap, thick grease. So I guess it just sooths it.
