Guest guest
I am still pre op but I have read that a lot of times it is the iron causing the horrible constipation. Maybe try backing off it for a few days to a week and see what happens. For others that have done that and it seemed to work they only add the iron back in every other day or every third day. Just a thought. Alice hardestyal hardesty@... Constipation-HELP!!!! Caution....this is not pretty. I am having a terrible problem with constipation, and I am hoping that someone can help me because I have tried everything that the surgeon suggested, and nothing is helping. I go for my 5 week checkup on Wednesday, and I am afraid that if I don't get this worked out, it will lead to some of the more embarassing solutions to the problem. I am taking a multi vitamin, 6 cal-mag-D capsules, biotin, an extra 400 mg. of magnesium, a B-12 sublingual and 1 trinsicon Iron with vitamin C. Something in this combination is plugging me up something horrible! To help the constipation, I am taking collase 3X/day, Benefiber 2X/day and for the last week I've had either MOM, correctol or x-lax as well, and nothing is loosening me up. I am able to go to the bathroom every 3-4 days, but when I do, it takes hours to get the deed done, and it is so painful I can hardly stand it. Apparently I have broken some blood vessels, because there is a LOT of blood when I am able to eliminate. I've had to wear a pad to keep the blood off my clothes. Afterwards, for a day or more, I can't sit, stand, walk or move without horrible pain that feels like it goes the entire length of my colon. The pain wakes me up at night...it is so bad! I would appreciate any help you can give me. I have stopped taking the calcium and the iron since yesterday, hoping that this will get me back to normal, but I know that this is not a long-term solution, and so far it hasn't helped. I never thought I'd say this, but I would give my right arm for a good case of diarrhea! Cindy
Guest guest
Yup. It's the iron. You can stand going a few days without it. I'm sure your doctor would agree to this. Feel free to check with the office though. Also, lots of water!!!, and add some fruit, as well as walking. In the hospital, they have patients walk (march even) in the hallwayas to get their bowels running again. Don't be ambarassed about asking here. We all share many of the same problems. > Caution....this is not pretty. > > I am having a terrible problem with constipation, a
