Guest guest
Barbara; Oh girl I feel ya I'm one who can eat anything to but mine is mocha's they don't bother me at all I have started asking myself why I need it and do I really want it, mostly now I can walk away. Are you grazing or over eating when you look at the food ask yourself what is this really going to do for me is it what I really want or is there another reason. I hope this helps to know you are not the only out here struggling with this post-op. I think there is a cook book out there for WLS post-op I would think you could cook from it for the whole family and maybe you wouldn't feel so left out that is one of my problems I see them eating stuff and I can't have it so that is how I got started trying things I shouldn't. I hope this helps you. Oh yes YOU HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB AT LOOSING THIS WEIGHT I mean 168 pounds WOW !!!!! You know you can keep this up when you get over this bump in the road and you will I have faith you don't loose 168 lbs to go backwards it's onwards for you!!! T . Guest guest
Barbara... First and foremost, congratulations on your wonderful success so far! That is no small feat, and you should revel in it and be proud of yourself. Secondly, take a breath, tell yourself you are human, that you CAN get control...and realize that this is normal. You go through phases (everybody does, whether they have had surgery or are skinny minnies) when you are more "peckish", and you (for emotional reasons, pre-menstrual reasons, whatever) are tempted to snack. It sounds like you are exercising enough, don't sweat that. If you want to increase by a day, fine...but otherwise, you are dong great for maintenance, and even for more weightloss. Are you wanting to lose more? You didn't make that clear. If you do want to lose more, it may be that your body is taking a bit of a hiatus. Now, I'm not advocating that you continue to indiscriminately snack. No, not at all. And, particularly important right now is that you weigh yourself everyday, so that you can get a reality check on how much you are eating. If you gain a lb, do something to get that lb. off. Eliminate the snacks that day. Go on an extra walk. Do whatever it takes...and you'll start feeling in control. Because normal peole go through munchy phases. And that's ok. What's not ok is if you permit yourself to form new habits (as opposed to a few days of lapsing in your hypervigilence). What's not ok is if you let that scale go up five lbs., and you don't bother to do anything about it. Then you are going to start to have a struggle on your hands. Who needs that? It's much easier to handle the weight issue when it goes up just a tad bit. So, don't freak out, just be a grown up. Think about what you put your body through by having that surgery. Focus not on denial, but on good nutrition. If you are eating empty calories that don't advance your nutritional health, cut those out for now. This is a good way to avoid the mentality that is "diet like". Instead, it is health oriented, and it tends to help me get into control without me feeling the need to rebel against a restrictive diet. Mind games, for sure...but hey, whatever works. Make a commitment to go back to the basics for two days. That's all. Don't plan ahead, don't get into this "all or nothing" mentality, you'll start driving yourself crazy. Just commit to two days of the basics: 1. eat your protein first, before you eat anything else. If you are wanting to snack, fine. Just don't let yourself eat anything other than protein when you snack: beef jerky, a piece of turkey. Whatever. It isn't as exciting, and it gives your body necessary nutrition...and it tends to fill you up. 2. Drink water. Lots of it. Stop drinking about 10 to 15 minutes before you eat, but chug alot of it down right before that 10 or 15 minute interval, so that you are still a bit full before you eat. Wait at least 30 minutes after you eat before you drink again...this gives food the chance to stay in your tummy long enough (before washing some of it out with water) to help you feel sated for longer. 3. Stick to protein and veggies (salad, tomatoes, carrots, asparagus...whatever). For those two days, even avoid fruit (or limit it). 4. If you really are dying to munch, buy the SF popsicles. They are five calories, they freeze your tongue, it takes a bit of time to eat...and you can't do much damage with them. 5. During those two days, do exercise both days. And extend it for maybe 15 minutes. Take an extra walk...try to add a few extra steps in your day...park further away, take the stairs. Just be very conscious of adding as many calorie slashers as you can. 6. Weigh yourself each a.m. If you have gained more weight than you can lose in those two days, keep it up for another day or two. If you want to lose more weight, you may find that by committing to only two days...you will find yourself wanting to continue on that path at the end of those two days. You can do this. You can get control. But like our friends at Nike said so well, "Just DO it." Don't obsess about it, don't beat yourself up about it...don't freak out about it. Just DO what you need to do to get back on track. Look girlfriend, you've lost a LOT of weight. You are capable of doing this, no question. Good luck, Sweets. Guest guest
just a few thoughts... are you feeling bored with your food choices and not satisfied? May be you need to change to a different fruit and/or veggie? cook your protein in a different sauce/way? Or do you feel you are testing and revisting old habits to check them out? Regardless, the fact that you are aware of what you are doing and also reaching out for feedback shows progress of all the changes you have made and will still make. As you know this is a life long experience best of luck 2 u b Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. Make PC-to-Phone Calls to the US (and 30+ countries) for 2¢/min or less.
