Yes, our son's ammonia levels are elevated. The number wasn't grossly high,

it was 43. We were prescribed a product known as Ammonia Buster to reduce

the ammonia levels. It is made by a pharmacy in North Carolina. The phone

number is . It is the smelliest product we have ever bought in

our lives. Rotten eggs smelly! However, our son's body does not appear to

emit any odors as a result. He has not experienced any nausea, gas, belly

aches. He will be tested again after he has finished the medicine, and

probably on a periodic basis indefinitely until we see that the ammonia

levels are stable.

Perhaps there are other products that can serve this purpose but I don't know

what they are. Your physician might want to make the call to find out more

about this product.

It is not understood why the ammonia levels are high, other than to assume

that liver function is not optimum. It would appear that the autism disorder

truly does affect the digestive system to a very large degree, in addition to

the nervous and immune systems.

Good luck,

Felicia

It does generally have to do with liver function. Many people I have had

contact with who are on seizure meds have this lab work done because some

meds effect the liver. They can give somthing to clear the ammonia out rather

quickly-but I cant remember the drugs name right now.f
