Guest guest
Press Release: Mambo #8 is THIS FRIDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2010! For Immediate Release on Monday, November 29, 2010 Contact: Alayne Unterberger, PhD, Executive Director, 813.477.2882 or 813.249.8100 Tampa, FL: Working for change is never easy. Just like learning a new dance, it requires both immense creativity and commitment. And, like everyone else, we have had leaps forward and setbacks but generally, we at the Florida Institute for Community Studies (FICS) are proud of what we have accomplished over the past eight years. As our Mambo #8 is almost here, FICS extends an open invitation to our community partners, friends and the greater Tampa Bay area celebrate our past, present and especially our future with us on Friday, December 3, 2010 at the Doubletree Hotel, Westshore, 500 West Cypress Street, Tampa, FL 33607. In keeping with the Mambo theme, we invite participants to dress in 40’s style Mambo clothing, such as zootsuits! There will be salsa lessons, great food, entertainment and plenty of opportunity to Mambo! Complimentary hors d’oeuvres and silent auction begin at 6:30 PM and the festivities kick off at 7:30 PM. We will have various types of entertainment, including testimonials, Peruvian traditional dancing and our DJ Otero will spin some good music for us to mambo or whatever we want to do! Read more at http://northwest2.tbo.com/content/2010/nov/24/NWNEWSO10-mambo-event-supports-free-programs/news/. As our main fundraiser for the year, we are proud to welcome Suncoast Schools Federal Credit Union as our Silver Sponsor and Blue Cross/Blue Shield as our Hero. Our silent auction items include: original art by Joanne Osborn, Pablo DeLuna and Guillermo Portieles; four tickets to Big Cat Rescue, 4 tickets to the Lowry Park Zoo, an autographed hockey stick from the Tampa Bay Lightning, gift certificates from Paris Hair, Salsa Dance Lessons by Salsa Caliente, Spanish Lessons, homemade limoncello (an Italian beverage) by Larry Aiello and much more! Tickets are on sale now and include: the happy hour/hors d’oeuvres, dinner, entertainment, beverage and dessert at $40/person, $75/couple and $400/table. The first fifty people to arrive will receive a complementary drink ticket, good for a mixed drink or wine! In 2001, a group of students, professors, university personnel and activists began a dialogue about how to solve the gaps that exist for communities across our state. In 2002, the Florida Institute for Community Studies (FICS) was born, with a mission of “partnering with communities across Florida to help them achieve their goals through research, service, education and training.” Learn more at www.ficsinc.org, which includes our calendar of events. We are a statewide non-profit organization that reaches over two thousand people annually through our programming.
