Sorry to say so, but yes, it can happen.

I have known of patients who've actually had orthognathic surgery

three times, for various reasons.

I'd be on the phone to my surgeon this afternoon.

Sometimes the ortho can fix things with rubber bands -- but you're in

arch bars, rather than braces, so I don't have any idea what your

options are, if things are truly out of whack.

Sorry.

Bob,

Cammie is right in that regression can happen. However, inflammation

and muscle memory can shift things around temporarily. I am 8 weeks

post op and a few weeks ago I woke up with my lower jaw shifted three

mm left. Let's just say that I was a little freaked out. However,

when the OS & OD pushed my jaw into position (seated the condyles)

everything lined up. It didn't stay that way. But the bottom line is

that with the condyles in position everything lines up. That means

that the bones are still OK. But, either inflammation or muscle

memory is pushing/pulling things to the side. My OD was correcting it

with elastics until they noticed that at 8 weeks post op my upper

arcade can still be moved very easily. Of course that means that

proper healing has not taken place and I am back to a liquid diet.

By the way regressions usually happen when things are moved forward.

The strong muscles of mastication (chewing) pull things back. I am

not sure if the reverse happens.
