Guest guest
This supp comes up for discussion often, so I want to post our recent experience. SNT was recommended for my son (then 9) during a DAN consult 1 1/2 yrs ago. I was out major $$ during the next few months trying to find a version of it that Ian would not gag on before I gave up. Later the Nu Thera capsules came out - very small & easy to swallow. (We also use CLO, but that started pre-GFCF). Ian seemed to go thru a hyper phase at first. (I goofed and failed to start NT at a reduced level and build up.) That effect faded, but I didn't see any changes thereafter; on the other hand, progress was continuing with GFCF, so I can't honestly say what did what. After a few months, we occasionally missed a dose, and Ian seemed to become hyper & unfocussed for a day. During the past couple of weeks, I've been down with a nasty, long lasting flu and regularly missed Ian's am vitamin schedule (NT & CLO). School started up again, and homework has been a nightmare. Also, two people (who didn't know Ian previously & his AspS dx) have commented about his ADHD behavior. Well, that snapped me back into gear, he's back on his vitamin protocol, and the situation has quickly improved. I can now see that NT is an important part of his recovery. When I looked at Rimland's work with supps, I realized that the effects are usually long term, weeks - not days. So for newbies who are looking at supps and wondering what's worth the effort & expense, I suggest that you consider a long term approach to the issue and not base any decisions on whether there's an immediate positive or negative response. (Of course, not all children benefit from SNT/NT. The point is that I would have missed an opportunity to help my child if I hadn't utilized these supps over the long haul, just as some children take awhile to respond to GFCF without apparent benefit until there's an infringement.)
