I'm scheduled on March 9th for lower jaw surgery to correct my

overbite. When I go to my pre-op/class appt. on March 8th they will

also decide if its necessary to do upper jaw surgery to make my jaw

align correctly. I've been wearing mystique braces for almost 24

months. My hospital appt. time is 11:30, surgery from 1:00-3:00, and

then to recovery room. How long did any of you stay in recovery room

after having lower jaw surgery before being released to go home. I

know if I have lower & upper surgery I spend the night and go home

the next morning.

Thanks,

Cheri

I had lower advancement only. Stayed in the post anesthesia care unit

from Tuesday morning until Wednesday morning, then went back to the

room, and left the hospital early wednesday afternoon.

What are " mystique braces " ? Don't remember that term...

Hi Cheri,

This is like deja vu. I had lower jaw surgery at Kaiser Oakland with

Dr. O' in December, except mine was for an underbite. My

appointment time was also 11:30 am. Here's how it went down:

I showed up right on time at 11:30. They urged us in the class not to

show up early -- we'd just end up waiting. When I got there, I

registered and was then taken into a small room to hang out and

change into my hospital gown. About 15 minutes later a nurse came in

to take my vitals. Then I went with her to another small room where

my IV was put in. Back to the hang out room to wait for the

anesthesiologist. She came in around 12:20 and told me that they were

ready for me now. She quickly went over what she was going to do and

asked if I had any questions, then I walked with her to the operating

room.

Dr. O' was already in there with about 8 other people. I hopped

up on the table, was told I'd start to feel sleepy, and the next

thing I remember was waking up and feeling all wet around my eyes. I

asked why I had been crying and was told it was normal. At this point

it's around 2:00 pm. They wheeled me into the recovery room where I

stayed for about an hour, slowly waking up. I was then moved into

another recovery room that had recliners. A nurse helped me change

into my clothes and I then sat in a recliner for about another hour.

Then it was into a wheelchair to be wheeled down to my boyfriend in

the patient pick-up area.

I was home by 5:30 pm!

Best of luck with your surgery.
