Hi Alison -

Do you know what type of band the clinic in Vancouver uses? It the product

is a reputable band such as the STARband you will probably be okay waiting

the two months. Many people have started bands later than 7 months old and

have gotten good results.

There is a facility in Seattle that bands:

Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center

4800 Sand Point Way, N.E.

Seattle, WA 98105

However, it is my understanding that they only do the Clarren Band which is

a passive band and works a lot more slowly than an active band (STARband,

Hanger, DOC band). You would be better off waiting and getting an active

band in Vancouver which is why I was asking above about what type they use

there.

There may also be a Hanger facility in Seattle so hopefully someone will

chime in if they have been there.

The price of bands varies. I would say anywhere from $2,500 to $3,500

depending upon where you go and what type of band it is.

If you go to a facility in the States you will need a prescription for the

band. This can be written by your paediatrician or a specialist. I don't

know what the policy is about accepting prescriptions from outside the US.

Good luck!

vancouver resident considering seeking plagiocephly head

band treatment in WA

Hi,

I have a 5 month old son who has plagiocephly. We just had our appointment

at BC

children's hospital the passed monday (feb 2), the occupational therapist

said the head

banding would be very beneficial. But she warned that the local orthotics

clinic has a long

waiting list. So I called the clinic to book an appointment in the car on

the way home, and

the earliest that I can get is April 9, which is more than 2 months away.

I have read 5-6

month, the skull is most malleable. Since we have to pay for the cost of

the treatment, we

thought maybe we should just do it in WA.

1) I am wondering has any canadian out there got the head banding done is

the US? Any

advice?

2) Any good recommendation for a clinic in WA?

3) What is the cost approximately?

4) Do I need a doctor's note or referral, or can I just call and book an

appointment.

5) My son Logan is 5 month right now. Do you think I should just patiently

wait for 2 month

and do it locally in vancouver.

Thanks,

Alison
