Guest guest
Hello there- Your father is such a huge supporter of Dr Ponseti-glad you came online. By the way, Giuseppe is beautiful-what a happy little guy. My son had a jumper like the one Giuseppe is in and I believe it helped him stretch his achilles tendons and help his dorsiflexion. I know also that my son likes to play with his feet and there are times when he has them curled in (almost to the club position) and it frightens me as well. But when I see him walk, run, jump, and play-I am reassured that his feet are fine and well. if you want more reassurance-send your pictures that you took to Dr Ponseti as he will be able to give you his opionion as well(it may take a week or so). Just keep being dilligent with the bracing and Giuseppe will be walking in no time! Guest guest
I love reading your message! Just the love and the success and your dedication all move me! I'm so glad you traveled to Iowa. I wish every mother of a club footed child could meet you and know there is always hope! As for feet turning in while the baby is relaxed, i think this is very natural. If you had a friend's baby to compare to, you would likely see that normal feet do this a lot. Even grown up feet can relax in to that position. If he is maintaining his correction by every other indication, i would not worry about it. My son is 2 years old, treated by Dr. Ponseti also, he wears his brace about 13 hours a night - and I see when he is barefooted and relaxed, his feet move inward. Otherwise though, his correction is totally perfect and I've noticed other non-clubfoot babies do their feet as he does. Best of luck to you! (your english is just fine!) shawnee mummy of Giuseppe, italian baby with clubfoot Hello, I'm the mummy of Giuseppe, the italian baby with clubfoot who came in Iowa to meet Dr. Ponseti(a very long trip). My father Matteo is member of the group and I read every day your interesting messages. You are fantastic and, when I have a doubt, I go on this site to understand what I can do for my baby. I want to remember you Giuseppe's story. Giuseppe was born with severe atypical bilateral clubfoot. We found a doctor in Italy who said us: " I use Ponseti's method " . He made 11 casts and everytime they slipped. He didn't understand that it was an atypical clubfoot. He made a tenotomy but the casts slipped again and the feet were very bad. I was destroyed. Giuseppe was 4 months old (4 months of casts and troubles) and I feared that his feet will be never straight. My father said us: " Let's go to Iowa City to meet Dr. Ponseti because he is the King of clubfoot " . I was afraid of doing a so long trip with a baby but, at the end, I thought: " I must do the better thing for Giuseppe and Dr. Ponseti is the best in the world " . When we arrived in Iowa City all was wonderful. We stayed in Mc House and it is a fantastic place. We felt at home. I haven't words to describe Dr. Ponseti. When I met him, for the first time, I thought that Giuseppe's feet will be fine. He is an angel. After the first cast his feet were wonderful. It was incredible for me. He made 3 casts and we came back home in 's brace. Giuseppe is using it from about 3 months for 22 hours. When we sent to Dr. Ponseti the pictures after a months of brace, he said: " use the brace for 20 hours a day " ; but I'm a paranoic mother and, sometimes, when Giuseppe is lying, I am under the impression that he turns in his feet. So I use the brace for 22 hours. When he is in the swing and he stands up his feet seem perfect. You can see the pictures in the album named Giuseppe's evolution. What do you think about? Is it normal that, when he is lying or sitting, sometimes he turns in his feet? I want to say you that the swing that you can see in the pictures is very good for clubfoot. Dr. Ponseti said me to buy it. It's fantastic because when the baby is in the swing he jumps all the time and it's a good dorsiflexion's exercise. Giuseppe is very happy when he is in the swing and he smiles all the time. You can buy it for your babies before that they walk. Excuse me for my English and, please,if you can, resolve my doubt because I am worried when I see that Giuseppe turns in his feet. Do your babies have the same behavior? Thank you, you are wonderful. Guest guest
Titty, Thank you for sharing Giuseppe's story again. We're glad that you and Matteo are here! Don't worry about Giuseppe's foot turning in when it is relaxed. I had this concern as well when my daughter was young. If you click here: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/jennifertrevillian/my_photos and go to the album called " 's clubfoot pictures " you can see a picture of how her foot turned in at rest when she was 2. Dr. Ponseti told me it was normal. As long as it's fine when he's standing on it, you don't need to be worried. I hope this helps! Regards, & (3-16-00, left clubfoot)
