Guest guest
Tina, I think that most of us formerly and currently MO have a tendency to put others before ourselves. Personally, I was a basket case when my youngest son decided to have this surgery. I knew that I could handle the possiblity of something happening to me, but the thought of someone I love going through the same pain and facing possible complications put pure terror in my heart. I had to sit myself down and tell myself the same thing that I tell pre-op members of my little group...you have to make the decision for yourself. My son and I had LONG talks for many months prior to his surgery. I realized that I could not have what I call " selfish love " (that is love to the point that you are unwilling to let them do what needs to be done to better their life just so you do not risk the pain of loosing them). I knew that I had to have enough love for him to let him take the chance for a better life even though it scared me to death! I know that it was one of the hardest things that I ever had to face. I hope that this helps you in some way. You're not alone in the fears that your facing. I will keep you and your dh in my thoughts and prayers! Love, Reba > > Well, can I have a drum roll please?? My husband, Ron, who was crowned our Walking Sheriff, has been approved for WLS himself, in only 2 days!! Talk about fast approval (and I thought mine was fast for being 2 weeks). He's already completed all his preop testing (blood work, psych testing, and internal Dr.) so now it's waiting for a cancellation. He's scheduled for Oct. 16th, but he definitely wants a sooner date so that way I'm home to assist him since I start school at the end of September. He's pretty excited, but me, I'm getting scared. Now why is that? When it was my turn for surgery, I was excited, but he was scared (I just found this out recently) so I guess it's fare game. > > Tina (Elf with jelly bean toes) >
Guest guest
Congratulations for Ron!! I know how you feel with it being his turn though. My Mom had WLS 15 months after I did and I was terrified sitting there in the hospital waiting. I'm convinced that surgery is harder on the ones NOT having it than it is on the patient. The patient gets drugs too. ---------------------------------------- Terry Mayers 5DollarHosting.com http://www.5dollarhosting.com .... because it shouldn't cost a fortune to make a fortune! Good news for my husband > > Well, can I have a drum roll please?? My husband, Ron, who was crowned our Walking Sheriff, has been approved for WLS himself, in only 2 days!! I've been at the fair all day long for the past 3 days and I'm totally exhausted. Our Search and Rescue Unit has a booth and of course nobody wanted to volunteer their time to man (or woman) it, so I took the initiative (along with Ron) to keep an eye, but I tell you it is so hard with the smells.....freshly baked scones, onion burger smell (yuk), and my all time favorite fair food CORN-ON-THE-COB saturated in butter and salt!!!! I just can't wait until it's over with tomorrow so I can return to my normal eating pattern (of protein only).....or maybe I'll just start with a protein feast to " cleanse my system " ....... > > Tina (Elf with jelly bean toes) > >
Guest guest
Oh, no question about it! But, for those having to go through it with a loved one, consider the alternative.
