Guest guest
Hi Beth - I had a bone graft with upper jaw surgery just a little over a year ago, in December 2004, along with an upper segmental. They used cadaver bone. Is there anything in particular you want to know? I still have a lot of numbness, although it's much better than it was originally. The roof of my mouth is still very very numb (and upper gums too). I also have some numbness on the left side of my face & upper lip, which has improved a lot. -- In orthognathicsurgerysupport , " McDonough " <bethny2000@y...> wrote: > > Has anyone had any experiences with bone graft surgery? Guest guest
Hi it sounds like i am in a similar situation as you. im have Lower advancement and the Oral Surgeon wants to take a piece of my hip bone to use in advancing my lower jaw, i guess cause its too far back to just do with the normal advancement surgery. Any feedback from anybody who has had this done would be great! > > > > > > Has anyone had any experiences with bone graft surgery? I am > > having > > > this done along with upper jaw. Guest guest
Beth: I missed about three and a half weeks of work, and only worked half days the first week back (which was probably still a week too soon for me). But I had to dive right in to a busy deadline at work. By about 6 weeks, I was much better. I think recovery in general from a bone graft is probably not much different than others. One thing I do remember about reading on this board about others that had their hip bone used, was that the hip hurt a lot worse than their jaw, but the recovery time seemed similar. I'm a bit older than you, was 44 at time of surgery, so I would probably recover a little slower than you. It just takes a lot out of you. A lot of people on here seem to go back to work in 2 or 3 weeks. The worst week is the first (really those first 4 or 5 days). It's all uphill after that! Other factors make recovery worse (like if you're wired, as opposed to not being wired). (or having to wear a splint as opposed to not). I was not wired, but had to wear a splint for 5 or 6 weeks. My doctor actually let me chew soft foods after 2 weeks (which is pretty soon compared to most on here), which helped me greatly. Also, I was told that using cadaver bone (instead of hip) it takes a little longer for your jaw bone to actually heal, but not that much longer (like maybe a couple weeks). (but I don't think it effected the length of my recovery) > > > > > > Has anyone had any experiences with bone graft surgery? I am > > having > > > this done along with upper jaw.
