Guest guest
I just wanted to add that it's in her interest to keep you coming to see her. She'll continue to make money from your having to see her. Re: upseting news That just seems like a very irresponsible way to go about things on her part. I am sorry this happened to you . You need to do what you feel is best for you. If having surgery is what you think will help then do it. I know so many people who are no longer on Insulin after having this surgery. If you feel that you can control your diabetes in other ways then by all means do that. Just do not let this one Dr.'s rather unprofessional tactics discourage you or influence you. Guest guest
you can get the arthritise whether you have the surgery or not, either way you need the calsium, and without the surgery your diabetes will not get better and your blood pressure and cholestrol and you are more prone to alot of different cancers because of the weith and your joints like the knees and ankel and hips will probably get artritise and hurt like hell , just keep reading about all of us and the problems you can have or do now . sleep disorders and a whole lot more that i might not have mentioned, my grandmother had this type of surgery for stomch ulcers in 1960 that surgery is whatlead to the byepass they discovered that people lost weight, and my grandmother lived a long and healthy life and was very slim ater the surgery she never had any problem with her eating or health that i know of after that , and she lived by our family so we should know. she ate 5 small meals a day and thaat's all i know she ever did , never gain any weiht back either good luck bye shirley of fontana ca wrote: Been a while since I wrote and introduced myself but I have been still researching and reading all your posts (ty for all the great info) but the upseting thing that happened is this: my diabetes Dr is the one who suggested that I look into wls about 4 months ago, I had been thinking about it before then but she brought up the subject. Hours and hours of researching this, I actually have my consult w/the surgeon in 2 days and she is now saying she really doesnt like to have people do this. She was the one I was counting on for a great letter for the insurance company. Her thoughts are that there is not enough long term research on this to know what happens 20-30 years later, if I dont have this then I dont think I have 20-30 years left! Is anyone here long term? And what are some of the problems that have come up maybe 5,10 or even more years, down the road? She believes there may be a correlation between this surgery and osteoporosis, does anyone that has had wls or know of someone that has, developed osteoporosis since the surgery? I would think that it would be long time down the road to develop it but I dont know. My thoughts are this....get rid of the diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholestrol and the meds that go along with it, and worry about what may or may not happen 20-30 years from now when you get there lol...may be a bad way to look at it but I really feel like we need to get priorities straight. I would rather have the osteoporosis than all the other things. I dont know what is going to happen now, she said go to the consult (which I was NOT going to cancel anyway) but not to commit yet. Not sure what else she wants me to try. I eat between 1300-1500 calories a day, carb content is about 30 for breakfast and 30 for lunch, 50 at dinner. these are the amounts my dietician gave me 2 years ago when i went on insulin. I work very hard and staying on the " straight and narrow " when it comes to eating so I dont think that part of the surgery would be too hard. Anyway thank you all for letting me vent and if you have any info you can share I would really appreciate it. Keep the good info coming, and keep up the hard work.
