Guest guest
I also went to CIRS in Palo Alto about 2 years ago and my son wore a Starband for 4 1/2 months from the ages of about 6 mths to 10 mths or so. I also had Bob, and believe me, he and I butted heads a few times, however he is good at what he does. You just have to have the type of personality that can handle his "abruptness", and who can give him a little push back when he is being too overbearing. It was hard, really hard and I will admit that he and I butted heads and had a misunderstanding and I switched to Amy for my last visit, as well as my follow up visit. However Bob handled my son's head correction beauitfully. We went from 12mm to 3.6 mm (or something like that, I can't believe I can't remember at this point), but his head looks wonderful, what a difference. I would say that Bob is good at what he does, but agree that he is harse sometimes in his mannerism's, so it takes a strong personality to deal with him. Amy is a much more personable option if you are willing to give them another try. she was wonderful with my son and VERY capable, I just didn't know too much about her until the very end of our treatment. I don't know that I've heard of any other options in the bay area, other than the CIRS Oakland office, maybe they are an option if you are wanting to move forward or give it another try?? I'm sorry that you had a bad experience, it does not make this process any easier and we all know that you have a ton on your plate. But please please don't let Bob deter you from getting the end result you want, he's not worth it. Please feel free to contact me should you have any questions, I also recomend that you all CIRS (if you haven't already) and make a formal complaint about his bedside manner. We can all hope that if he gets enough feedback, he might make a change. I personally talked to the office manager about him, and it didn't sound like I was the first. - "In the depths of winter, I finally found there was in me an invincible summer." From: Bridges <ashleybellabridges@...>Subject: BEWARE of CIRS, Palo AltoPlagiocephaly Date: Monday, December 15, 2008, 1:26 PM Hello All,I do not recommend CIRS in Palo Alto, CA. Bob was the Technician we saw most often. He was quite rude and uncomfortable to be around. We did not see very much correction but my son had a relatively mild case. I did not expect much but I wanted to try everything we could. I'm NOT bitter about that-it's the treatment I (my son) received when I went in there that I'm upset about.Bob was gruff at best and talked to me like I was an idiot. In terms of the STARband I guess I was, but he never offered much information or guidance. I had to drag stuff out of him and when he answered he was short and rude. I would ask a follow-up question and he acted like I was asking him to read the entire encyclopedia. We had an appt last week and I missed it on accident because I got caught up with my other child who has another medical issue. I JUST realized I missed it when I was going through my purse and saw the reminder card. I did NOT recieve a courtesy call. They are not that busy that they can't call to reschedule. I think at this point, 14 months we are done with the band and with Bob. I would never treat anyone the way Bob treated us. I do not understand why someone we PAID IN FULL to provide services would treat their patients like that. They just wanted the money and do not care about the outcome. I have a feeling Bob at CIRS is shady. Do not take your business to him. Luckily if you live in the Bay Area you have other choices.Good luck to you all how are going through the banding process, it's hard enough as it is. I hope you have support.Noah 14 months, wore helmet for 5+ months.
Guest guest
Hello all, I know this thread is over 5 months old, but I wanted to check in and get your feedback on the work Bob does at CIRS Palo Alto. At about 2 months, I noticed that my son's head was starting to get flat in the back. It bugged me to no end, so I brought it up to my pediatrician at his 2 month check up. She referred me to CIRS in Palo Alto. We met with a Bob a couple days later. To make a long story short he had severe brachiocephaly along with a little flat spot on his right hand side. With a little repo we improved his asymmetry but his CI increased from 92% to 96%. We're currently waiting for our STARband to arrive June 1. I do agree with all of you that Bob is not a people person. He didn't explain himself very well and I had to ask several questions over and over again. However, he was never rude to me. Honestly, I really don't care about his demeanor as long as he can fix my son's head. I wanted to send a message to see if anybody saw good/bad results from his work and the STARband. I'd love to hear your stories… good or bad. Guest guest
Hi , Thanks for replying to my inquiry. I'm glad you had success with both the STARband and Bob . I saw this thread shortly after I paid my $1400 deposit to CIRS Palo Alto, so it freaked me out a bit. I haven't had any problems with Bob, so maybe all the complaints made in the past helped. As I mentioned in my post as long as he can fix my kids head, I could care less about his abruptness. Let me know if you have any tips about CIRS, Bob or the STARband. Guest guest
Hi , I haven't had much time online recently, so I wont't read the whole thread. I probably responded previously, but we had a good experience with Bob... My daughter had brachy, started at 96% and graduated at 85%. She still has some weird angles/'corners' on her head, but it is largely not noticeable. I can see it when her hair is wet, and since I'm a moderator on this group for the past 3 yrs, I am also hyper-aware of her flaws. I found Bob willing to answer questions if you asked him, and took your time to make him answer them in a way you could understand. He was generally very nice to us, and we didn't have any problems. Sydney's pictures are in the photos section under " Sydney M " . If you have any specific questions feel free to email me. I'm only online from time to time now, but started in mid-june I'll be on consistently again. I'm doing some traveling now, so my computer time is limited. -christine sydney, 3 yrs, starband grad > > > > From: Bridges <ashleybellabridges@> > > Subject: BEWARE of CIRS, Palo Alto > > Plagiocephaly > > Date: Monday, December 15, 2008, 1:26 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hello All, > > > > I do not recommend CIRS in Palo Alto, CA.
