What are everyones' views on trans fats. I have been aware of how

bad they are for some time and am finally reading labels to find

them and am a little surprised how many different foods they are

in. It seems as though almost all processed/packaged foods have

them. I don't know why, but I was surprised to find trans fats in

my Jif peanut butter. It lists it as less than 2%. Is that still

too much? Please let me know your thoughts.

Trans-fats (aka partially hydrogenated veg oils) ARE found in just about

every kind of processed/packaged food. You are absolutely correct on that. Most

health practitioners say that zero tolerance is the key; i.e. no percentage of

them should be consumed. I have banished ALL fats from my kitchen and foods

except olive oil. Used to allow canola oil, but no longer. Olive oil (and the

oils in EFA's) are not just " not bad " for you; they're actually good for all

kinds of things.

Carol,

May I ask why you don't use canola oil any more? The reason I am

asking is that I have a home health aide that helps me do my shopping.

She insists that I don't need olive oil and that either canola oil or a

mix of canola oil and olive oil is better. I think she's nuts but.......
