Guest guest
Thanks for the advice. I will try not to fiddle with it but it is very painful when my teeth hit as this is the only tooth that meets the upper teeth right now. I have had my lower braces on for 5 weeks and the upper ones for 2 months. I just hope the pain will go away and that the tooth will somehow settle and stop moving. Actually glad I have those braces on now as I feel those wires actually keep it more or less in place. Iam looking forward to surgery a lot!!! Thanks again Karola > > > > I hope someone can help me out here. Today while brushing teeth I > > had a weird feeling around my lower back molar - the one banded. Guest guest
Karola, Do you still have your wisdom teeth? I had that issue as well... they put in a spacer at some point and the tiny shifting caused INTENSE pain in that area whenever it was touched. At first I ignored it but it just got worse. Then eventually it was so bad it was intollerable. I went to the ortho and he said it was my wisdom tooth... it had been moved a little. The pain was so intense, it was hard to really pinpoint where it was starting from. he sent me to the surgeon that day who popped out the wisdom tooth (the top one- even though I swore it was the bottom that was hurting) literally the SECOND that tooth was out of my head, the pain was gone. Don't know if that is possibly part of whats causing your pain... maybe the band is loose and pushed the wisdom tooth or something... normally the loose band is uncomfortable... maybe even a bit painful but in my experience, it has never been unmanagably painful. Of course, since those are the only teeth that are touching, it may be different for you. If it is that bad, I'd follow Katja's advice and call the ortho to see you sooner. There is no reason you should endure the pain for a whole other week. Best, Tova > > Thanks for the advice. Guest guest
ARe you using warm saltwater gargles? Do you see anything that looks red or inflamed in there? I'll bet your ortho can figure out what's going on, and maybe he can even make you some sort of splint or other device that keeps these intensely painful teeth from hitting without upsetting your bite even more. I used a product called Glyoxide the whole time I was in braces, and still do. It's essentially dilute hydrogen peroxide in some sort of glycerine or other solution. It's pleasant to use, and might be helpful. I used it twice a week. Why not call your ortho's office and ask about it? (Or about using dilute hydrogen peroxide.) I also used fluorine products twice a week -- Prevident, Gel-Kam, etc. That may be useful to you, as well. But first you and your ortho need to figure out whassup. Meantime, I'm sorry you hurt. I'm reasonably sure that the warm saltwater rinse won't hurt. And I understand completely about being grateful for the support of the braces. I even told my ortho, just before he took mine off, that I was afraid. He thought I meant the procedure for removing them. I told him that wasn't the problem -- that they were my security blanket about the teeth moving. C. > > > > > > I hope someone can help me out here. Guest guest
Hi Cammie, I began this process last summer when in my hometown an ortho took all the molds and x-rays and then again was subjected to the whole initial examinations when they began my treatment in the capital. So I would think they should have noticed if something was not ok. In addition my dentist, whom I respect and who is very conscientious, had a look at x-rays and filled even the tiniest cavities. Besides I have had all my teeth out before my bite began to open in my twenties. I live in Hungary. And you weren't so far off as Karoly is actually the male equivalent of Karola. I am treated in the capital, basically the only place where they do such things in Hungary (population 10 million)and so I presume this ortho has seen a lot. You're making me more anxious but I hope - although not know what food traps are - that there's no food trapped anywhere after all the cleaning I do. I use a Braun Oral-B unit which has a waterpic and heads for braces and normal heads for the normal tooth surfaces. And those tiny brushes too and last time I went I asked them to check how well I was doing at cleaning teeth and the assistant congratulated me on how clean my teeth were. But I don't fluss at all because it is so painful and my teeth are so incredibly tight. She said it was ok as the waterpic does the job. I am sorry you have a hard time of rebuilding your house. For us it will be easier in that sense because we move in whenever it is ready. And it is quite an excitement. We are actually lucky because my husband came into a plot of land which would have been so expensive we couldn't have built a house had we had to buy land. Not many young people in Hungary are this lucky. My dream was to raise my future kids in a house with a garden and not in a block of flats and now the house part is becoming true. I didn't say my treatment or ortho were barbaric, I meant forcing to move bone and cutting someones face in half. I had a breakdown last night after reading an article someone here posted a link to. I really shouldn't read about how it is done - it freaks me out. My next appointment is in a week and I hope it won't get worse. But I try to keep teeth apart for most of the time. Sometimes however my jaws decide to shut on their own accord. Especially when I talk a lot (being a teacher means a lot of that) my jaws just suddenly shut and then bang .... I am glad for this board. People generally don't understand a thing and I stopped trying to explain them. Karola
Guest guest
Honey, if your docs have okayed what you're doing, I'd trust them. Food traps are because I am an old -- 59, almost 60-year old person - - and my gums have receded. Not because of the braces; just because that can happen. What it means is that food sticks down beside the molars, and is the dickens to get out, no matter what tools you use! Alas. Now whoa! I don't understand this one: " I > have had all my teeth out before my bite began to open in my > twenties. " I'm hoping that means you had all your teeth CHECKED out. " Out " here would mean removed, in which case you wouldn't be needing ortho! So does that mean you see docs in the beautiful Budapest, where the Danube flows? I have never been there, but would love to visit, someday. Or is there another capital these days? The maps have changed vastly since last I studied geography... And I hope that the site for your home will be idyllic, with all the veggies, flowers and children (not in that order, of course) that you could wish to cultivate. Yes, anyone, anywhere, who happens to own a piece of ground is fortunate, and I hope you will enjoy living there. Do remember that the treatment is honestly NOT barbaric -- even the surgeries. They are performed, at least hereabouts, by caring professionals, who go to great pains to diminish any unpleasant results, and most people do not have trouble. That's not to say, alas, that you will have no complications guaranteed, but it is to say that it's likely that you will do well, and be much happier with your mouth and bite after all this is over. And without a lot of pain, I hope, along the way! It's a lot easier than trying to put a house together/back together, I promise! You are absolutely correct. Most people do not understand at all! At least those who have not had this treatment. If I had a nickel for every friend who'd told me I didn't know what I was doing, I'd be able to pay off the remodeling/repairing costs! Flossing may well become easier as you go along, and your teeth move into better alignment. There are some tools here in the U.S. that can make it easier, like Glide Floss Threaders. (Although maybe you have better stuff already.) If you want to know more, e-mail me at ceast36532 (at) yahoo (dot) com, and I'll try to make my way through the international mail thicket to send you some. (On my nickel. They are lightweight, so the postage should not be expensive.) Guest guest
Actually, Karola, my knowledge of geography isn't as good as it ought to be -- especially since quite a few continents have had some big changes in the last couple of decades. Not that change isn't a good thing, at least sometimes, but when they start rearranging boundaries that my knowledge of is shaky -- well, it complicates things! I think, too, that it's easier to learn geography when you've had a chance (very slight, in my case) to know people who've lived or visited, or who are visiting in different places. I've been blessed with that, although I haven't done as much traveling as I might have. I would bet that South Carolina offered you a real " culture shock " ! And yes, you are a skinny minnie! You definitely do need some extra calories, I'd say. If you can't do a banana (sorry!) do a blended banana. In a milkshake, perhaps with some peanut butter, chocolate and whey protein blended in.
