Guest guest
His neurologist just put him on a new > medication that he is having a hard time with. Lamictal (lamotrigine) > plus he is still on Depakote as well. He has become very irritable, > wants to lay around and cry all day. Here are links for you to look at these two medications. http://www.mentalhealth.com/drug/p30-l06.html http://www.mentalhealth.com/drug/p30-d06.html Okay I will type this next information in all capital letters -- I AM NOT A MEDICAL DOCTOR DO NOT MAKE ANY MEDICATION CHANGES WITHOUT CONSULTING WITH YOUR CHILD'S DOCTOR Okay, here are my observations Lamictal contains lactose. If your son is not doing well with it, but was doing well on gfcf before you started this medication, I would venture that it might be because you are giving him lactose, a milk product. Consider asking your son's doctor for another medication, or consider trying digestive enzymes to possibly counteract the effect of the lactose, here is a message board for information on that. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/enzymesandautism Both these medications also contain dyes. If your son has phenol issues, then these dyes may be making him hyper and/or in pain. Here is more information on phenols. http://home.pacbell.net/cscomp/phenol.htm You can also consider requesting these medications to be specially compounded by a compounding pharmacy, to contain the active ingredients without all the fillers. Here is one link for this, but your local pharmacy may be able to do it for you also. http://www.iacprx.org/ Both these medications also appear to be very potent anti-seizure medications. I would definitely question their use for a very young child, especially if taken TOGETHER. It appears one of them is not even recommended for use in children under age 18. For some autistic children with seizures, the effects of the medications are worse for them than the effects of the seizures. You can also consider asking your child's doctor about weaning him off one or both medications, to start again. It is driving me crazy.I call his > doctors and they act like it's ok for him to be going through this. I > am very frustrated. I thought people went to the doctor to get answers, > but I get none. I am aware of several children who are autistic and/or developed seizures after vaccinations. And most doctors do not recognize that. You are not crazy. I would STRONGLY recommend you post your question about seizures and medications on this message board. http://neuro-mancer.mgh.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/forumdisplay.cgi?action=to pics & forum=Autism & number=9 CAUTION -- many of the people who post on this message board are pro-medication. However, there are many people here who do have autistic children with seizures, so you can get some good advice about seizures and medications from other parents in your situation. I would also recommend you consider obtaining a second opinion, perhaps by contacting a DAN doctor, here is the list. http://www.autism.com/ari/danlist.html I need whatever help I can get. I hope there is > someone out there with some advice Please. Rebekah (Kienan's mom) I hope something here helps you. Good luck.

In his case, the seizures are brought on any time he ingests gluten. In fact, he had an incident a year or so ago, where he accidentally ate regular pasta. He ended up in the hospital having major seizures. It was awful. I can't help you with advice on the meds, but definately there is a connection with seizures and these foods. It may not happen in every case, but my friend isn't the first person to have made this connection. I would definately keep him on the diet, and perhaps post where you live (city and state). Hopefully, a parent on this list may know of a doctor in your vacinity who is more open minded. a - Peoria IllinoisGet more from the Web. Guest guest
Hello Everybody. I am new to the group, but I have enjoyed reading all the success stories. I hope to have one to tell one of these days. I had my surgery on May 10, 2004, in Lexington Ky. It was Lap. everything went well. I have lost 35 lbs. so far, but I haven't lost any for a week. Is this normal? I try to drink my water, I eat solid food if it is chopped up. The Dr. told me I could now eat vegs and fruits. Alittle at a time. My biggest problem is that I am hungry all the time. I know that this is in my head and mot in stomach. Is there any way to overcome this? I'm getting depressed over this. I don't want to stretch my pouch and get back where I was. Has anybody had this problem and how did you get over. Thanks for listening to me. I will be looking forward to hear from anyone. Thanks again Alice Borland 216/181/
