I'm wondering if anybody here

uses or knows of a legal probiotic that contains the strain Lactobacillus

salivarius?

Thanks.

Well, since the only legal strains a s. thermophilus, l. bulgaricus, l.

acidophilus, and l. casei, with s. boulardii as a supplement (the others

are either in yogurt or a supplement), no, there isn't a legal

probiotic containing that strain.

It looks like an interesting strain, however.

Nothing I've read about it indicates that it might have the over-colonizing properties that bifidus does/can for people with IBDs. Are you assuming we are to assume (how's that for indirectness!) it's illegal because it's not a strain Elaine ever mentioned, or because of its specific make-up?  Or because it always seems to be mixed with, among other things, bifidus strains, and sometimes FOS?n>> — Marilyn> New Orleans, Louisiana, USA> Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001> Darn Good SCD Cook> No Human Children> Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund>-- ______________________________A funny, touching gift book for cat lovers. It's not a strain Elaine specifically authorized. Therefore, it's not

something which I can comment on. (Thanks, I took enough flack when

I went out on a limb and said that cocoa butter, as a fat, might be

legal, since other oils derived from non-legal foods were.) You're pretty

advanced, however, and have added some non-SCD things (like nettles) back

into what you use. So it may well be something for you to consider, if

you can find a brand without other illegals.

It's very rare that one finds the strains separate, and, in particular,

without bifidus thrown in. Or FOS. That makes it hard to test the effect

of a single specific strain and determine whether it's something you wish

to experiment with. You might take a look at

http://www.customprobiotics.com/custom-probiotics-l-salivarius.htm

As I said, it looks like an interesting strain. I'd be particularly

interested in the anti-inflammatory effects.
