Guest guest
So sorry about your accidents and pain. And certainly the events of this week have been difficult for you. They have been for me and many of the clients in our hospital and clinic. As far as the DSM IV goes, I have to deal with it all the time.. making differential diagnosis between all sorts of options.. with the proper codes. For the bean counters of course. There is poor interrater reliability with the DSM IV-- that's why so many folk have a long list of previous diagnosis. Making an accurate diagnosis is important for my work, but I'm often more interested what has worked to help with the symptoms since prescribing medications is a big part of what I do. I work with many MSWs and have much respect for their work and contribution to the team. I live with one who is a PTSD therapist so recognize the skills and value of the work you and other social workers do. Here in the wonderful world of MO with both pre and post op folks, I am always interested in how people are feeling, how their moods are going, and what changes they find with surgery, weight gain/loss, etc. Nice to see another person interested in mental health. Certainly MO impacts that in ways many professionals fail to understand. Hope you are feeling better soon... and no more accidents! in Seattle > Well I can certainly check the DSMIV, I have one at > work.........haven't been to work in awhile, i've had > 2 car accidents within 2 weeks and I am in servere > pain.......when I check it, I will relay what it says, > I seriously doubt that what u do is all that different > from what i do........my time frames maybe a little > off due to some disorientation from the accidents, but > for the most part, we shall see. > >

I tend to think she's a wee bit more " up to speed " ... Social workers are NOTHING like medical professionals.. they might have the same big book.. but they don't always use it. Since you are a caseworker rather than a counselor, I doubt seriously you use the DSM IV unless you need the actual diagnosis code for paperwork. Recognize your limitations. To do otherwise only serves to make you look less credible. Sigh.. I knew this was coming when I read 's response.. Liane
