Hi Peg -

I cannot answer all of your insurance questions, however, I just had

surgery at Mt. Sinai so I can answer the " fun " questions!

I would seriously suggest the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It's at

85th street and the doctor's office is at 98th. Your son may enjoy

the Egyptian area and you would probably enjoy seeing the famous

Monet's. When I was there in July they had a special Jackie O display

- It was AWESOME!! I spent a couple hours wandering around the

museum. (after your appointment - just take a taxi down to the

museum or walk down there)

I would also suggest seeing a play in the afternoon. There are several

ticket agents online....

If you son will shop with you Bloomies isn't very far from the

Met....and there are quite a few street vendors around the area too

who are fun!!

Good luck with your appointment and have fun in the city!!

Lots of Luv,

Mickey

Hi Peg,

I'm a NYC resident so I just wanted to give you a word of advice on

traveling - leave a LOT of extra time to drive into NYC. Due to the

recent terrorism, there have been enormous delays in getting into and

around the City. Starting tomorrow there will be a ban on one-

passenger cars (which is not a problem for you since you have your

son with you) and that might alleviate things a little bit. But we

have also had a LOT of bridge and tunnel closings periodically and

yesterday they were randomly stopping many, many cars and trucks on

the bridges and tunnels which caused massive traffic gridlock. So I

just wanted to warn you to leave a few hours earlier than you were

going to.

As far as things to do afterward - the Aquarium is in Coney Island,

Brooklyn which is a pretty far subway ride and the Bronx Zoo is up in

the Bronx, also a pretty far train ride. BTW, I wouldn't recommend

that you try driving anywhere within the city. Either catch a cab or

get a subway map. Not only is there the ridiculous traffic to

contend with - there is virtually NO on-street parking available

during the day and the garages are all extremely expensive, so to hop

from one parking garage to another is going to cost you an arm and a

leg. I suggest you take the subway up to the Museum of Natural

History (Central Park West and 80th Street) - the Planetarium is also

there which is just recently renovated and a lot of fun.

Hope that helps. Good luck with your appointment.

I wouldn't know how or where to get on or off subways or buses.

Hey Peg,

When robin says leave a few HOURS early she is not

exagerating. I was in NYC last week for my consult

and it took me almost 2 hours to get from Laguardia to

the NYCUMC which is usually 30 min. drive. ZSo

definitely allow some extra time.

I suggest you take the subway up to the Museum of Natural

History (Central Park West and 80th Street) - the Planetarium is also

there which is just recently renovated and a lot of fun.

This is what I would suggest also, especially if you want something special

for a 12 year old boy. (Unless he is into art or some other special topic).

The museum is just great and if you don't have any large collection like

this near you, it is unbelievable. Take him to the Dinosaurs or ocean area

and find some time for the jewels (minerals and crystal collection) for

yourself.

You can't see it all in one day.
