Guest guest
Hi, I'm in the same boat Lav, in terms of looking for a surgeon. I'm having surgery in 6-7 months (Leforte 1). My ortho is very good and has an office in both Jersey and Manhattan. He not only does great work, he's also down-to-earth and honest. His brother is an oral surgeon and I'm meeting with him in a couple of weeks. I don't think he's as prominent as some of the other surgeons I'm researching but he obviously has a good rapport w/ his brother. And I may believe that going with a surgeon who isn't the vp on a board etc. may obtain better results than one more involved in Bureaucracy. I've heard of Weber but have not had a consultation; he was recommended by a family friend in the business. I mentioned Behrman to my ortho and he said he's had about 2 cases go through his office and wasn't terribly impressed. However, another person on this board has recommended him and was satisfied with the results. The other two surgeons I'm considering are 1. Cho (removed my wisdom teeth, and is a top oral surgeon in the city) 2. Thorne ( a plastic surgeon who works with one of the top ortho's in the city during the surgery (Barry Grayson) It doesn't get better than Grayson. But Thorne is a plastic surgeon and said he performs about 6 Leforte's per year, and others in this group have said to stay away from a plastic surgeon. But Grayson only works with plastic surgeons. This is a tough decision Does anyone else have experience with any of the above doctors? Let me know if you'd like the name of my ortho or the phone numbers to any of the surgeons. > > After years of deliberation, I've decided to get upper/lower surgery > to correct an underbite. Guest guest
Hi, In approaching my jaw surgery, I too deliberated long and hard over the Plastic vs. Oral surgeon approach. It really depends on who you ask. All of my Dr.'s and orthodontists have worked with Dr. Grayson and are more than confident in the plastic surgeon they use. However, Dr. Grayson's cases are through the Facial Reconstruction Institute and mostly involve children with birth defects. Dr. Cutting (outside NYU) also performs many orthognathic procedures but again, mostly on more facial deformities. I was really impressed with Barry Grayson (he's a wonderful and gentle man) and decided to work with one of his orthodontists for the braces. After seeing a half dozen surgeons I picked an Oral Surgeon in Long Island. His name is Leonard Hoffman and has performed over 2,000 orthognathic procedures. One of the biggest reasons I went with him is because he does more joint procedures than anyone in NY State and I'm a candidate for complications due to arthritis. I have been impressed with him and his office managers. You can get more information on him and his clinic at: http://www.longislandoralsurgery.com Good luck with your decision. The best thing about the tri-state area is that there are so many skilled doctors that you'll be in good hands. All the best, Jennie Page --- wrote: > > Hi, > > I'm in the same boat Lav, in terms of looking for a > surgeon. I'm > having surgery in 6-7 months (Leforte 1).
