Guest guest
That's absolutely wonderful. I know that you stressed a lot about the fit, but it was obviously good enough to get correction. That was really fast. What were the starting and ending numbers? Luke Graduates! I know the following doesn't make sense, but the only way I can describe the banding experience is that it's been a long but fast 2 months. Thank you all for your help, advice and support. I have been extremely busy with family these past couple of weeks, but I plan on hanging around to give advice when I can.I posted before & after pics under STARbands: Luke D.For all of you who are in the beginning of your journey, hang in there! Guest guest
Hey , Hi , His ortho said he had at most 3 more weeks in his helmet. He did a lot of growing...much more than I ever anticipated. His end numbers were: CI: 97.5 down to 88%, CV: 4.2 down to 2.1, plagio asymmetry 6.6 down to 3mm. I considered keeping him in for the last 3 weeks, but I decided that instead of focusing on the numbers, I would look at how he looked...and I am extremely happy with his end results. At certain angles, he still looks a little odd, but I know that if I was not looking for " plagio " or " brachy " , I wouldn't even notice. Overall, I was not at all happy with the fit of his STARband nor his ortho even though it evidently worked. I know I sound ungrateful, but in my " looking " at his head all the time to see improvement, I noticed there was a slight flattening on his anterior right side, right above his hairline. I believe it is because his band was consistently rotated to the left and it was " holding " his forehead in the wrong place. It totally freaked me out and that's when I decided to focus more on how he looked to me rather than the numbers. So for anyone out there with a band that you feel is ill fitting, keep on your ortho about it. I went to see Luke's ortho every 2-3 days for 2 months. If I didn't keep on about getting the right fit, I think his band wouldn't have had such a good outcome. Of course, I'm sure I was a pain in the ass, but I really could care less. I know that a lot of parents don't have access to their ortho's like I did, however, I don't think most bands are as ill fitting (or at least that is what it seemed in my research). His ortho also said that since he is only 7 months old, he will probably get some more correction naturally. I don't know whether to believe that or not. I do believe that banding Luke was the best decision because it got his head shape going in the right direction and if he ends up with his head looking like it does right now for the rest of his life, I would be happy with it (learned to question myself about that from this group:) Again, thank you for all your advice. Guest guest
, Congratulations! Things look so much better for little Luke. I checked his pictures and I can certainly see improvement in his head shape. The back of it really popped out! I admire the fact that you repeatedly voiced your concerns to the ortho, way to go! Guest guest
wow, sorry you had such a hard time with his ortho & getting the fit right. It is good that you stayed on top of it. Do you mind telling me who your ortho was? It might be good feedback for someone else considering the same ortho down the road. -christine sydney, 3yrs, starband grad > > > > > > > > > > That's absolutely wonderful.
