Guest guest
I have ceramic braces on top, plastic on bottom, and on both upper and lower I have metal brackets in the very back. I have not yet had my surgery but can tell you from my experience, for me the metal brackets have been more tempermental than the clear. I've had my metal brackets fall off several times, both during the bonding process and once after they were intially put on (I knocked one off hitting myself in the face with an oar during a rafting trip). Also, when my orthodontist was doing some fine tuning of the alignment of my teeth he had to pull off both a ceramic and a metal bracket. He had no problem taking off the metal one but the ceramic stuck. They use different kinds of bonding for each. So in my experience, the ceramic have actually been the tougher of the two kinds, they have stayed put. My ortho had no concerns about my ceramic braces in regards to my surgery. His only concern was that post surgery, once I have my new bite, my top teeth would grind on the lower ceramic braces and wear away my teeth's enamel. He suggested metal brackets on the bottom, but I refused. So he ordered me special plastic ones on the bottom. Also, from what I've been told the surgical hooks are just crimped with a special tool onto your wires and are used for guiding and for wiring or bands during surgery. Hope this helps.
