Guest guest
Let me rehash my story. I was scheduled to have RNY surgery on 9/7/01 but after extensive research I decided to tell the surgeon that I was not happy about RNY and decided to have BPS/BP surgery. I was told by the surgeon at Mt Sinai that because I had appx.10 in of my sigmoid colon removed over 20 years ago, they would not perform BPS/DS on me. They felt that I would experience abnormal diarrhea. They wanted to do RNY. That's not for me. I went to my PCP and he contacted the surgeon. They spoke for about 15 min. The surgeon will not do DS surgery on patients who underwent surgery for a sigmoid colostomy. Bottom line is that he feels I would have a greater problem with diarrhea. He says that normal DOS patients go 4 to six times a day. I my case I would be living on the bowl. WOW was I depressed. I went for a second opinion with Dr Macura. He does not feel that I would have excess diarrhea but wants me to have a barium enema. He wants to see the outline of the bowel. I emailed other surgeons and to my supprise they all responded like Dr Macura. I was impressed with Dr Macura. I'm sorry I didn't know of him in my original search. No surgery date scheduled but his office is in the process of writing the letter to United Health Care(POS). Keeping my fingers crossed.
