Re: Oil of Oregano?

You might consider taking the supplement N-A-C. It is an antioxidant

and helps protect the lining of the lungs from viral invasions during a cold or

flu. It worked wonders for my dh when he had the H1N1 virus.

I don’t know about the OoO. I don’t think it would

hurt to take it. What about coconut oil?

Hope you feel better.

I think I have a cold, since my sinuses felt

all clogged yesterday and

I woke up with a horrid sore throat this morning. I don't really want

it to turn into anything, so my question is: do you think I should

take oil of oregano to help fight it off? I've never taken it before,

and I wasn't sure how it would work with me being on an

immunosuppressant. Does it help fight viruses/bacteria by

strengthening your immune system (which would be counterproductive, it

seems like) or by actually killing the bacteria/virus/fungus itself?

Do you use a Netti-pot? I think it is helpful.

Alyssa,I think oil of oregano or grapefruit seed extract are both good options. The chicken broth, epsom salt baths, and plenty of rest will help too. If you are too stuffy, put a few drops of eucalyptus oil on a hanky or tissue and smell it periodically -- it is like breathing vicks or halls throat lozenges only without the calories or stickiness (got that from I think Mara). I think the ooo just takes care of the virus/bacteria and isn't necessarily boosting the immune system like say echinacea does. Get plenty of vitamin C as well.Take care!AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Thu, February 25, 2010 11:06:29 AMSubject: Oil of Oregano?

Getting that serious a cold days after going on an immunosuppressant

isn't great news.

Call your doctor and find out whether you should drop the immunosuppressant

until you recover from the cold.

I would try garlic, personally. But you could try oil of oregano.

Alyssa-

I hope Imuran kicks in for you. As I said, I had a great time while on Imuran

with apparently no noticeable side-effects.

It should be very helpful for you since you're careful about diet etc, which I

wasn't.

These should together get you back on track.

-Andy.

One thing I always do is use normal saline solution for my nose. You

mix up 1/4 teaspoon salt in 1/2 cup water or same proportions to

other amounts of water. You need a bit hotter than lukewarm for it

to dissolve, but lukewarm to use. A neti pot is probably the best but

I've spend years just holding some in my hand. Do one nostril several

times, and the other. Done several times a day and particularly at

bedtime can really help clear the nose, and I read recently that the

salt is therapeutic as well.

Do you use a Netti-pot? I think it is helpful.I did it last night. It felt horrible, but that's probably because my sinuses were already clogged/inflamed. I'm not sure if it helped; hopefully it did!! Peace =)Alyssa 15 yoUC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Azathioprine 50 mg 1x per dayPrednisone 40 mg 1x per day

Getting that serious a cold days after going on an immunosuppressantisn't great news. Yeah, I thought the same thing. I'll have to email/call her today.Maybe keep track of it in a calendar or journal - just in case this turns into a pattern and youwant to be able to show it to her to get off of them.Just a thought.Mara

Me, too, Claire. I use the Redmond Real Salt, not ugly old Mortons. If

the salt is good and the proportions are correct it shouldn't

burn.

I just wanted to mention that when I did this the first time, regular

salt burned me. But when I used sea salt, it worked just fine. Just a tip

FYI
