My son did that too when his band was off and I have heard that lots of

babies go through the same thing. I think the babies get so use to the feel

of the helmet that having it off is a weird sensation and it itches. I used

Aveeno oatmeal packets on my son to help relieve the itching during the hour

off. The packets are meant for the bathtub but I mixed it with a little bit

of water to make a paste and put that on his head during his bath. I left

it on his head for several minutes while I sat next to the bathtub cleaning

his band. I then washed his hair with shampoo afterwards to get the past

out and he seemed to itch less. Worse case, I just put his band back on

before the one hour was up. Good luck!

Head itches with helmet off. Any advice?

I'm new here and I searched for this topic but didn't find anything.

has been in his helmet for 11 days. He's doing very well and

doesn't seem to mind it.

The last couple of days he has been scratching at his head when I take

the helmet off. I'm not sure what to do for him. He doesn't scratch

at it when the helmet is on. I wash his hair every day when I wash

the helmet and leave it off for his one hour out. I use baby shampoo

4-5 times a week and selsen blue with moisturizer (started using that

for cradle cap) 2-3 times a week.

Any advice? Am I washing him too much?? What more can I do to help him?

my son, alex, is the same way. i think it just feels good when the helmet comes off—the tingle of the cool air hitting a hot head. or maybe like when you've had your hair in a pony all day and finally take it out. it feels good to rub your head. anyway, alex loves me to tickle his head right when i take off the helmet. then he rubs back and forth, back and forth on the back of his high chair.

we don't wash his hair every day because of super sensitive skin, but we do clean the helmet daily with 91% alcohol and that seems to be doing the trick.hope that helps!hollymum to 8-month-old twins alex (in docband since 1/5/09) and max (no helmet necessary)

Our PT actually told us that we should rub and massage her head during the time that the helmet is off. I'm not quite sure why, but it sounds like it would feel good so we do it when we remember to. If we don't remember, we do see doing the same thing to herself. Maybe it just feels good to scratch.
