There was a segment on TV a few weeks ago about an autistic boy with a dog

and how well the boy did after getting the dog. Did anyone see this? If you

did, what kind of Dog was it?

Anyone have a dog that does well with their autistic child? What kind of dog

would be best??

I did not see the segment, however our autistic son talks to our dog

that we got the kids for Christmas all the time. We got a boxer. We

chose this one because they have shorter hair and aren't supposed to

smell and they are good with kids. We got a male though and he can

be a bit much at times especially if you don't have a yard for them

to run and exercise in. In hind sight, A female would probably have

been better for us. Of course, our male may be better after he is

neutered (very soon!)

I would want to do a scratch test on your child before I actually got

a dog, unless they've been around dogs a lot and you know there isn't

any problem allergy-wise. We recently found out that our son is

allergic to dogs and can't be around them, although I know that a dog

would probably be good for him to play with. It would be hard to

take a dog away if you later found out that your child is allergic to

them.
