Guest guest
has been in her FAB since Thursday evening so about three days and nights. She has adjusted fairly well with her main objection being that her feet are spread far apart when I am rocking her to sleep and she cannot put them together to cuddle with me as she is used to doing. However, after the first night, I noticed a small red spot on the side of her big toe, which I padded with gauze between the shoe and the sock and this has fixed that problem. ( has very strange toes, which are curled under and the big toes curve inward toward her feet so this is a problem.) When I took the shoes off this evening during our hour break, I noticed a red mark on the outside border of her foot about a quarter of a inch long about halfway between her toes and her heel. I don't know if it is the beginning of a pressure sore or the beginning of a blister. It didn't seem to hurt her. I padded it with gauze at that area like I did with the toe. Here are the questions...Does this mean that I am getting the shoes too tight? Not tight enough? Do the s have to be as tight as the Markells? Am I doing the right thing to pad it with gauze? Her left foot is the one with the red mark on the toe and on the side. It is the foot which doesn't have the 15 degrees of dorsiflexion... more like 5-10. Both our local ortho and Dr. Ponseti thought we should not do a tenotomy and wait to see if the heel cord stretches. Her heel is not down on this foot as much as it is down on the right foot, although the right foot is not all the way down, either. I know from past posts here not to be concerned if the heels are not all the way down right away. I want to catch any problems quickly and address them so suggestions are welcome. Also, I found out this evening that I can pull the brace/bar apart with no tools..completely apart with the shoes each having a piece of the bar and making it into two pieces. This doesn't seem right. Is there a flaw with the bar? It has two holes in the back of it and one has a screw type thing sticking out of it. The other has a screw indented into it. Does this sound like it is supposed to be? Thanks, Carol and , bcf, 10-27-05, FAB 23/
