Guest guest
Congratualtions!!!! Angie Aidan graduated Well we took him to the doc on Wed and he has fully grown out of his helmet and got another mm of growth in the past week. We may do one more helmet to get him to exactly 2 standard deviations from normal. he is .75 away from that and if we banded him it would be another 3 months for about 1 CM of growth so we are trying to see if Insurance will pay ect. Our Ortho at CT told us she is really pleased with his growth and we could go either way and not make a bad decision. He i snow rolling and sitting up on his own so the only time he is on his back is when he sleeps- he is so use to sleeping on his back that he will not sleep any other way even though he can roll- so I am worried about that. Also the 1st night he did not sleep well, since he is use to having the helmet on to lean back on.. anyone have any suggestions about sleeping- I do not want regression. Also I took him back to our Ped that suggested at 3 months to get him in a helmet and she told me it looks great and that is she were meeting him for the 1st time she would not recommend him for a band now-so that feels great- he is not perfect but he also has my husbands head shape and our ortho told us some of head shape comes down to genetics. I will post pics soon but am so happy we did it- he loves so great and I love kissing his sweet head again! However I thought he looked so cute in his helmet too :-) Thanks for all your support- this was a really great experience for us and we are so happy we did it so early and have no regrets- if you are thinking about banding but not sure- do it, it is so worth it and is harder on us then them- I think he misses his hat :-) Mom to Aidan DOC Band graduate 2/12/2009 was in it for 7 weeks
Guest guest
I’m surprised that they told you only 1 cm in 3 months at that age. My daughter grew nearly that much when she was over a year. If you look at the head growth charts on the CDC website, that will give you a better idea of what to expect. Here is the link for boys. It actually looks more like 1.5 cm for 3 months to me. http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nhanes/growthcharts/set3/chart%2009.pdf Anyway, some it of depends upon whether or not you happen to catch a growth spurt. We improved considerably with only 8 mm of growth so double that would be measurable. I hope that seeing the charts helps you make your decision. , mom to , 17 months 3 weeks 13 weeks in STARband plus CST Brachy from 95.0 to 92.3 (at 9 weeks) Edgewood, MD Re: Aidan graduated How old is Aidan? btw, my older son's name is also Aidan - I'm sure you know how popular the name is. I ask about the age because almost had 1 cm growth in nine weeks and she is going on a year and a half. , mom to , 17 months 3 weeks almost 13 weeks in STARband, plus CST Edgewood, MD Aidan graduated Well we took him to the doc on Wed and he has fully grown out of his helmet and got another mm of growth in the past week. Guest guest
At 6 months old, I'd get a second band (that's exactly the decision we made so I'm probably biased). If you think you'll want to do it later, I'd just do it now as you will gain a better correction in a shorter time span than you will by waiting. ~ Elaine (twin A) plagio & tort, 8 1/2 mos, 2nd helmet since 1/5/09 On Tue, Feb 17, 2009 at 7:47 AM, <melanie.watson@...> wrote: I'm surprised that they told you only 1 cm in 3 months at that age. Guest guest
We are still waiting on insurance but in the 4 days he has been without the band he looks pretty good and seems to be growing still. The other thing is he has my husbands head shape so his head will never be round and our ortho told us genitics comes into play as well, Thanks for all your advice and suggestions. I will let you know what we decide.
