Has anyone had any luck in getting a referral to an oral surgeon

outside of the Kaiser network? There was one in my home town that

contracted with Kaiser to take the overflow from Oakland, but I was

told Kaiser did not renew his contract. I just received a letter

from Kaiser in Oakland that I would have to wait 6 to 9 months to

even get a consult! I am in so much pain I don't feel I can wait

this long! I also have a question due to my age an orthodontist said

I was not a canidate for braces because of bone loss. He was afraid

if he tried to move my teeth I would loose them. So how can I be a

candiate for surgery without orthodontics? I am do confused. My

dentist said she can remake my upper teeth to get my bite more

normal but I would still have an open bite. I am so confused--all I

want is the opinion of an oral surgeon. Which way to turn??

Many policies provide that if there is no in-network specialist

within a certain number of miles of where you live, they will pay an

out-of-network surgeon to do the work. Check your policy.

Far as I know, you can simply call an oral surgeon, take your records

along and have a consult. Be prepared to pay for it, though -- in my

case, I think it was about $125. Ask anybody you call what the fee

will be.

I'm not clear about what happened; I paid it, but I think that my

insurance company may have paid it, too, and then my surgeon applied

that money to the rest of what he was doing for me.
