Guest guest
Sue,My husband is on LDN 3 mg. He feels it helps, but he hasn't noticed a huge dramatic improvement. We also suspected a yeast problem and have started s. boulardii. It caused his face and skin to flare with eczema. He has stopped for a short while and the skin is doing better. I think it was a die-off reaction, but he has remained on LDN the whole time. He will try a higher dose the next repeat of his Rx, I think. What are the symptoms you are having that leads you to think it is yeast?Have you had your sex and adrenal hormones checked? Especially a 4 sample saliva test as it checks the cortisol levels over a 24 hour period. I continue to struggle with yeast (we assume) despite 9+ months of SCD (no fruit, honey, dairy, nuts), Rx and natural anti-fungals. Can't maintain a decent weight, lots of hair loss, muscle/fat wasting, etc. and trying to add in new foods has been problematic to say the least. My IM (integrative medicine) doctor thinks it's a good time to try LDN since all we're doing is not looking that effective. I've been studying about LDN for many months and know the advice against using it when you have a yeast problem. My doctor says he has read up on the opinions about that and doesn't find them compelling. He also says that in his practice, he hasn't seen that it has been an issue. If any of you wouldn't mind sharing your LDN experiences when you have known yeast problems, I'd appreciate it. Feel free to email me directly at bonniemac289@ comcast.net Thanks ! Guest guest
Sue,It sounds like you are on the right track though. I do think the eczema is a manifestation of yeast. The encouraging thing is that the body is supposed to heal from the inside out. Since it is manifesting on the skin, I would hope that is an indication that healing has occurred on the inside. I do know that my husband had this kind of skin issue when he was first diagnosed and not since until now.Any way you can go back on the hydrocortisone? Also, with your TBI, you may need to be on them for a long time if not always. One thing I did read, though, was that the taper needed to be extremely slow and that it wasn't uncommon to be on the hydrocortisone for months or up to a year before thinking about tapering and that was just for fatigued adrenals.I would say stick with a lower carb version of SCD if you can, continue with the garlic but then rotate with Oil of oregano and grapefruit seed extract to get the most benefit, and try to hang in there. If you can get back on the hydrocortisone, if you aren't already, I would if your doctor thinks it is the right thing right now. Progress is slow, but usually it is there. Can you tolerate l. acidophilus capsules? That will also help especially if you aren't doing the yogurt because of intolerance.AmeliaHusband UC 9 years, SCD 20 monthsLDN 3 mgFrom: Sue To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Thu, February 18, 2010 6:41:21 PMSubject: Re: For the LDN Users <<It caused his face and skin to flare with eczema. Never had it before in my life. Since my skin is terribly dry, velvety, etc. all over, I don't know if it's from general poor nutrition/poor fat absorption or maybe some reaction to yeast. I'm actually allergic to food type yeasts, so I don't take S.boulardii. >>What are the symptoms you are having that leads you to think it is yeast?>> 2 CDSA's, one at 4+ which went untreated for years. The increasing intolerance to all foods, especially starches to where everything pretty much is rejected. 50+ years of multiple antibiotic exposure. >>Have you had your sex and adrenal hormones checked?>> Actually, it was my adrenals that crashed about 16 months ago, 6 months before my GI tract went completely ballistic. I've had a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) and my adrenals/sleep etc. haven't been right since then. I did test with low cortisol levels and have been taking hydrocortisone since then. I did taper off when I was feeling much better in the fall (GI was a little better, too), but then things went really down hill once I was off. Can't afford to do any more testing right now. On brink of menopause and female hormones are up and down and all mixed up with the adrenals. All my docs, including naturopath are trying, but frankly I think until my nutrition is better, nothing's going to even out. And if my sleep doesn't improve, I'll probably go crazy---not that I have a long way to go :-) Thanks for asking, Sue R
