Guest guest
> Hi! I was just wondering myself about playdough - after muddling through hos last IEP I am going to request a set of school books and curriculum at Jays grade level to keep at home and supplement his teaching at home. I want him back in a regular classroom, but the CSE committtee all felt he could no suceed in a regular classroom or 60/40 having not been mainstreamed in 3 years. But how much curricullum has he lost and if he doesn't keep up how can he ever blend in so I am going to teach him myself outside of school and insist that he be allowed to hand in his work to regular 4th grade teacher so he and they know he can do the work. I read an incrdible curricullum for geography and state history that I think would be great for the PDD learning style based on playdough. You use large cardboard and a large state map assembled ontop of cardboard. The child traces puzzle map pieces on carboard as they dissassemble puzzle. Next they cut out pieces- then they can mold playdough on each state one at a time- to reflect geography- using tooth pick flags to identiy capital - perhaps playdough to represent state flower, and flags to identify important features- adding playdough or symbols to represent foods and industry produced in that state. As they finish as school year progresses they can reassemble the now 3-d puzzle and filter in history, government and supply and demand concepts.
