Your body's getting used to the new configuration of your stomach and

intestines. You should keep in mind that your stomach is now much smaller that

it was before the surgery. You could be experiencing a slight depression due to

the fact that any kind of food intake has decreased greatly and your stomach is

looking for food. You should talk to your doctor, let him or her know how you

are feeling.

What do I do?

Hi Guys!

I need some help. Things have been going pretty well since surgery, but

lately I don't feel good. I think something may be wrong but I am not sure.

It hurts to eat and drink, but I am not real sure why. It feels like it

could be gas or maybe something is blocked, but it's been nearly 3 days. My

Mother is so worried that she thinks I need to go to the emergency room and

find out if something serious is wrong. I don't feel sick unless I am

eating or drinking. The only thing I can seem to eat is chicken broth and

popcicles. Neither of which is going to boost my protein intake for the

day. I am having a really hard time with the taste of vitamins too. They

gag me really bad and I know I have to take them. This along with some

strange post op depression and I am pretty much a basket case. If anyone

has any idea what I am going through please let me know what will help.

Thank you all for your input and support! You guys are awesome!

you shouldn't be eating anything. but protein shakes

Popsicle's , chicken or beef broth. you are swollen

and it hurts because you had surgery 3 days ago. i

tried to eat to. and it hurt.i didn't listen to my

doctor. so i had to listen or i was in pain. so for

4-5 weeks i had just shakes and soup broth. what are

you trying to eat? i know every Dr. says something

different but eating food at 3 days too very soon.

just drink protein shakes and broth, sugar free jello

and sugar free pudding...

It's been 3 weeks since my surgery... not 3 days. I have been feeling icky

for 4 days now. I eat pureed foods and apple sauce, that type of thing.

Thanks!

Your body is getting used to several things:

eating in stages-water, soft foods, dairy and so on

the smaller size-eating less

getting everyone around you to except the changes in you

As you enter each new level of food your body may react differently-be patient

If that continues you definately need to be checked. You may either have a

stricture which can be opened or you may be having gallbladder attacks.

Gallstones hurt like something is rupturing in some people and is a dull ache in

others but if stones lodge in your pancreas you can wind up with long-term

problems with pancreatitis. (I did and I got my gallbladder out on the second

attack.)

I am not trying to scare you but you do need to at least call your surgeon if

you haven't yet. It may be nothing at all but either way, you should be checked.
