Guest guest
Somebody out there, please help! I had an open rny in '99. I lost l00 lbs, but weight loss stopped after a few months. Now I've gained 20 pounds and I'm afraid I'll gain it all back. The local OS Dr. says a revision is too dangerous. Is there some special diet that will continue weight loss that takes into account my smaller (but stretched) stomach pouch? The Dr. said something about taking advantage of the fact that I get fuller faster after eating certain foods. I'd appreciage any advice. Thanks. Guest guest
Hi Sue, you don't mention what you are eating now, or whether you still follow pouch rules. Are you eating mostly protein, drinking your full quota of water but not with or right after eating, and EXERCISING to burn those calories? Its still a calories game no matter how far out we are-take in more than you burn thru exercise/activity and you gain. Try cutting a few hundred calories a day, up the protein, cut back on carbs/sugars, up the water, and add or up the exercise (and it has to be heart pumping cardio to burn calories). Its not easy, its work but the pouch is still there and still intact so its not as difficult as it used to be pre-op to face dieting. good luck, Cindy RNY 2/8/02 249/148/145 > Somebody out there, please help! Guest guest
Hi Sue, I'm with you! I had my surgery in December of 1999. I lost 155 lbs and have gained 30 back. I exercise, drink, and eat well. I drink 1 - 2 protein shakes a day. I have spent the last three weeks on strict Atkins induction and have lost nothing! I wish I had some answers for you (and for me). What I do know is that a friend of mine visited recently with a surgeon who said the more and more follow up that they are doing on long term proximal RNYs shows that we are a success if we keep off 50% of our excess weight. Distals 75%. I read here religiously and wish I knew what the secret was - there seem to be so many long term post ops who keep it all off. I had hoped to be one of them. Good luck to you - let me know if you find something that is successful for you. Marjie
