Guest guest
I have heard that some moms put the child in the baby bath tub and use towels to keep the casts wet while they soaked them. I am sure that others with more insight will chime in soon. DM jennylare2004 wrote: Hi all, I will have to soak the casts before going into our next appointment. The nurse told us to soak them in vinegar and water. How do you manage to soak for so long? Do you sit in their bath tubs or do you find a way to submerge just the casts? -J'nee (bcf, born 01-07-06)
Guest guest
- Our favorite thing to do was get warm water, heavy on the vinegar-like a cup to a cup of water, put washclothes in it, soak the cloths, wrap them around the casts, then cover the legs with a ziplock bag and rubber bands(food storage size)-that way your little girl won't get wet and be spending hours in a tub soaking. After the presoak(for about an hour)-we would then put him in the tub with warm water again and start pulling the cast apart-start at the nubbin and unwrap it like a mummy. don't feel bad if you can't get it off-and make sure you do not take it off until close to the appt(never the night before as you will lose correction). If you can't get it off, just call the office and let them know so that they are prepared. Our son's first cast removal was a terrible experience-we couldn't get it off and then when we got to the office-our docs nurses couldnt get it off-ended up he had used the wrong plaster!!! AAGH! after that and our presoaks-we became cast removal experts!! hth, kathleen mom to david bcf fab 12/7 > > Hi all, > I will have to soak the casts before going into our next appointment. > The nurse told us to soak them in vinegar and water. Guest guest
We stuck Kelsey in the bathtub for a while and let her play. Then, I would wrap wet cloth diapers around the cast and put plastic around it for the trip to the hospital. The Doctor's staff then removed them in the office.
