Bread - 1 flop, 1 success, cake help, and 1 great dinner recipe

Okay, I had my first attempt at making bread yesterday

and it was an absolute flop. I used the Miss Robens

Wunderbread mix and I premixed everything in my " brand

new " mixer and then put it in my dads bread machine at

the large medium setting. Well, the top fell in about

2 inches, the inside was still wet and tasted like

paste, and the paddle was baked inside the bread (I

never had this problem with my bread machine but it is

only a 1 1/2 lb machine with no medium setting). It

was awful, and it tasted awful. I have no idea what I

did wrong.

Second, I attempted to make a banana bread recipe that

someone from the list sent me. The recipe only called

for 1 1/2 cups of flour, but then had me put it into 2

8x4 loaf pans at 350 for 50-60 minutes. It didnt seem

like enough mix to put it into 2 pans, but I did. In

30 minutes it started looking like it was burning so I

took it out not sure if it was done or not. Well I

have 2 very short loafs of banana bread, but it is

very good and the kids are tearing through it, so I

will consider this one a success. Yeah.

Third, my sons birthday is coming up in 3 weeks and I

have to make a birthday cake. After my experience

with the bread I am scared to death of not making

something that " everyone " finds great tasting. I

ordered a package of the chocolate cake mix from Miss

Robens but after reading the package I decided it

wouldnt be large enough. I also am concerned about

the taste, after the bread flop. Anyone have

experience with this, or know of a cake recipe or mix

that is an absolute definate great tasting cake? I

have several food critics in my family.

Fourth, okay I dont know if I got this recipe from

this list, or if it was from my daycare list so I am

posting it again. I apologize if it was a repeat, but

it was very good.

Chicken, Sausage and Rice dinner

4 boneless chicken breasts, chopped bite size

1 lg link of Italian sausage, chopped bite size (I

used applegate farms sausage links - whole package)

1 lg onion, chopped

1 green pepper, chopped

1 tbsp garlic salt

Dash pepper

1 tsp paprika

1 can chicken broth

2 c. white rice

Add small amount of oil to large fry pan. Brown

chicken, sausage, onion and green pepper. Add garlic

salt, pepper, and paprika. Measure chicken broth -

add water to make 3 3/4 cups. Pour into frying pan

with chicken, bring to boil. Add rice, reduce heat

and simmer for 15-20 minutes until rice has absorbed

the liquid. Serves 6.
