Hi everyone :)

As some of you noticed yesterday, I posted about a burning/aching

feeling in my stomach. Or rather, right under my incision from my

pen RNY (which I had 01/15/01).

There's been no throwing up or anything, no blood in my stool (sorry

for the graphic description), nothing but this excruciating pain,

which eventually spread all the way around my waist, and into my

lower back.

I called my surgeon (Dr. Anez), who told me to go to the emergency

room at the hospital where I originally had the surgery (45 minutes

from our house at midnight :P), and get assessed. So, off hubby and

I went to the ER.

They were very quick draw blood, and to put me on an IV. They gave

me beautiful, wonderful drugs to ease the pain (boy did they ever),

and also something to combat nausea.

The physician came to two " theories " :

1. My exam did not reveal the exact cause of my abdominal pain.

Since stomach pain can be caused by many different things, further

exams, lab tests, and/or x-rays are needed.

On a happy note, he said I should remain on bed rest until the pain

improves. I'm allowed to drink clear liquids if I am not sick to my

stomach, and I can increase my activity and begin to eat solid foods

as my pain improves. And I'm supposed to see my surgeon if my pain

is not any better in 1-2 days (I'll be calling my surgeon first

thing tomorrow).

2. My exam shows that I have gallbladder disease. This means that

there are stones and/or inflammation in my gallbladder and bile duct

system. The symptoms of this disease are: heartburn (yep, I sure do

have that - morning, noon and night), nausea (not really), belching

(yep, yep), vomiting (nope), and an intolerance to certain foods

(fatty foods mainly). Exact diagnosis of this condition requires

that I have an ultrasound, or special x-ray examination.

So the doc gave me some Percocet for the pain, and an antispasmodic

drug to help my abdominal symptoms. The antispasmodic drugs relieve

spasms and cramping in the stomach and bowel; they also help reduce

nausea and vomiting.

Anyway, I just wanted to let y'all know that I'm feeling okay

(except the drugs are making me SO sleepy). I'm going to go lie down

now :)

Thanks for all the help and advice. Please keep me in your prayers.
