Guest guest
I met with Dr. Inabnet, who works with the NY doctors early in July. All of my testing had been completed and was pre-approved by United Health Care. Since my original BMI was 63 which was over their 60 threashold. Dr. gave me a decision to make. Either do the lap duodenal switch in two operations(one operation do the stomach and then a few months later do the intestines) ~OR~ have the entire procedure done open. After many prayers and before I knew about this website, I decided to have the procedure done lap in two operations. I had the first procedure completed July 31 and have lost 45 pounds now. I am scheduled to go back in October for the second portion! I am happy that I chose this way, and have had no complications so far. To expand on why they gave me this decision, I was told that patients with BMI's over 60 were at much higher risk in a lap procedure. I believe that the doctors in New York, or at least Dr. Inabnet care, and are trying to take the safest route to get us to the end result of being healthier again!! This is just my experience....which was positive...and an option for those of you with BMI's over 60 who want the lap procedure.
