Guest guest
has been wearing the DBB for 3 months now. I have learned from this site that according to the Ponseti protocol we should be able to cut down his time in the shoes now to 20 hours. I am concerned though because lately I have noticed that when the shoes are off for the hour his clubfoot starts to turn in and up a little more than it had in the past. We are scheduled to see the doctor this Friday. I am just not sure of all the correct questions to ask while I am there. Originally our doctor said we could use our own judgement when taking out of the shoes which I know is not correct since there is a protocol to follow. Also, 's bar is too short for him now. Would this cause any problems with the foot other than him being uncomfortable? I am so afraid of relapse. My friend who is a physical therapist said that when starts to bear weight on his foot the position should be fine. I guess I am wondering if anyone else experiences the foot turning back in when the shoes come off and any questions I should be sure to ask when I go on Friday. I need to be prepared with this doctor since he tends to move pretty fast. Thank you, Stacey Mom to 7/8/05 LCF DBB 23/
Guest guest
Stacey, If you are only taking his shoes off for an hour a day, his feet should not turn back in within that hour. Does he cry when you put the shoes back on? Are the shoes set at 70 degrees? If the shoes are set correctly, and he isn't in any pain (you would know otherwise), then I would say you may just be overly worried. The bar length is a big deal as well. It should be approximately shoulder width. I am worried the doctor is leaving it up to you to decide when the shoes should be reduced. Have you thought about a second opinion?
