Guest guest
What it really comes down to is how you feel about the shape of your son's head. Ask yourself, " If his head doesn't get any better than it is right now, am I OK with that? " If your answer is " yes " then you can probably skip the band. If it's " no " or " I'm not sure " you might want to consider a band. How old is your son? Under the age of 6 months repositioning can be effective and you could very well see good results when you go back in four weeks. When we went in for our initial STARscan my son measured at 10 mm as well and I didn't think he looked that bad, especially considering he had a ton of hair hiding it. We tried repositioning for five weeks before making a decision and unfortunately he got worse during that time (up to 12.2 mm) so we went ahead with the band. Molly Novato, California Nicolas, 3.5, tort & plagio, STARband (CIRS Oakland) 4/24/06-9/12/06, Graduate! , 6 , 9.5 Dr. Appointment today We went to get a 2nd opinion for Brayden and this Dr. said she doesn't think he will need a helmet either. They sent us to get the StarScanner done and he was only off by 10mm, and originally when he got measured manually at another orthotics place they measured him at 14mm. We're supposed to go back in 4 weeks to see if he's made any progress from repositioning, etc. I'm hoping it goes down some. If we can get anywhere under 10mm I will be happy. Once his hair comes in you won't be able to tell it's even flat I'm sure. What do you ladies think? Thanks, ------------------------------------ For more plagio info
Guest guest
well how old is your son?? i think age really depends....i noticed my sons spot when he was 9 weeks and i repositioned until 5 and a half months and his head did change alot but his was pretty bad, his was 16mm off. in 3 weeks of repostioning it went down to 11, which he said was very good but we still got the band because we will probably be cutting his hair short like daddys. i dont want him to hate me later if it doesnt go away... i answered a question a while back where a mommy said that her son was 14 months and she regreted not geting it earlier because the flat spot didnt go away. we got my sons starband a week ago today...it was very hard for me to make the decision---i just couldnt believe he needed a helmet it was just like a shock to me that he seriously had to do it but i actually have heard great things about them and it makes it alot easier that he doesnt mind wearing it, thank goodness! like the other person said, do what you feel. if it looks ok then he might not need it! go without but if you cant stand it that there is a flat spot try to get it! good luck!!! > > What it really comes down to is how you feel about the shape of your son's > head.
