Guest guest
Hi there, I am also new to this but my son who is now 9 months had (of has) torticollis. I started him on physical therapy at 3 months after doing alot of research. Things went really well and at 6 months the physiotherapist said he didn't need any further therapy but to continue strengthening the opposite side. I still find he tilts to the one side and had mentioned this to the physio therapist. He said to come back if it didn't get better. Well at this point it is still noticeable. At first (3 months) his head was a little misshaped and the one side of his face seemed alot thinner. His ear is also kind of pushed in from leaning on it. His head shape had improved but his ear and face are still noticeably different from one side to the next. I just wanted some suggestions about what I can do. I don't know if the physiotherapist is who I need to see again or should I see someone else. I don't know how severe it has to be for helmet therapy. Or maybe it will correct itself as he gets older. I just really don't know and would really appreciate any suggestions or referrals. Thanks so much. Randi
Guest guest
I guess if you dont know how severe it is, you could always have a free appointment with a helmet company to get some figures , and to ask whether their helmet would/could sort the ears and face. People seem to have been told differing answers to that particular issue, so maybe its totally individual .My understanding is that the helmet doesnt address the tilt, its only for reshaping, so I guess youd still need a physio to work the neck. Guest guest
Hi, my son also had torticollis. We did PT from ~5 weeks til 8 months. His case wasn't too bad, we went every other week then just once a month. Our therapist said to come back if we noticed the tilt. So far so good, he is 10 months now. I would go back to PT. Our son wore a helmet from 5.5 months til 8 months. Out PT referred us to a craniofacial specialist t Cincinnati Childrens. Our ped didn't think he needed a helmet, but he was a severe case, 18mm off!! I would suggest going to the therapist and seeing if you can get a referral to a specialist. If he can't refer you talk to your ped. Good luck! Robin SW Ohio > > Hi there, I am also new to this but my son who is now 9 months had (of has) torticollis. Guest guest
My only advice is that my daughter'sdaughter's flatness itself was fairly mild, but her asymmetry in her ears was fairly significant. She also had/has asymmetry in her cheeks, eyes, forehead, and jaw. She has had her DOC band since May 1st and there has been a HUGE change in the asymmetry of her ears already. Her right ear used to be very far forward and now they look almost even. I am very glad that we chose to band. She still has Torticollis, though it has improved a bit over the past few weeks. You can see her evaluation pictures under M - Mia.
