Guest guest
Hello, When I was reading the article that someone posted from Biomechanics, it talks about exactly how the bones are manipulated during the casting. I think it also says something about this in the Global booklet. Maybe someone could confirm if there is a document like that to explain what the basic steps are for each cast? I was wondering if any of you actually asked the doctor about what bones he was manipulating each time and compared it to some sort of Ponseti document to sort of ensure that he seemed to know what he was doing instead of just twisting the foot toward the neutral position? Maybe I should just presume he knows what he is doing but how do you really know that they are manipulating the bones etc in the correct way? Thanks very much, Halley
Guest guest
If you watch the video online that shows a manipulation it shows where the dr. is supposed to place his fingers during positioning and casting. This can tell you if he is doing it right. He should just be using the tips of his fingers to move things around, not grasping the foot with his whole hand and cranking it around. Also, I believe he should never touch the heel. This can cause the heel to NOT come down. It will come down on it's own if the other steps are followed correctly. Also, the way he molds the cast can also tell. The cast should be well molded and the heel of the cast should be well-defined and it should be a long leg cast, up to the thigh area, with the leg bent at around 90 degrees. BUT, watch the video, it's very informative Marcia steps for each casting question Hello, When I was reading the article that someone posted from Biomechanics, it talks about exactly how the bones are manipulated during the casting.
