Guest guest
Hi all, I went to see Gail L. tonight at CMPC/SF. She's OK, groggy (just back from recovery room) but talking and aware. She's in pain, of course, but with a little encouragement got her to keep working the spirometer and also push that pain med button... Thanks NIck for the suggestions. I was glad I was there, becuase you may know, she got a call from Rabkin's office on Wed. that there was a cancellation, and she took it for today...wow. So, her family was out of town and friends didn't even know, so I was the only one. I discovered how important those ice chips, and chapstick are! Your mouth is dry and you want something to drink ... they only let her have a few chips. She is an inspiration to me, and I believe my going there was meant to be, despite the inconvenience, the traffic, etc. I was kind of afraid, not knowing what to say or do, never having seen anyone right out of surgery. But I saw that she was OK, had pulled through, and on her journey. It gave me courage. Especially after hobbling back to my car, trying to walk on the treadmill and unable to continue after 10 minutes tonite, and realizing how limited my life is -- I am letting go of some of the fear and ready to ride this crest into beautiful freedom land. Thanks all for sharing all you know about everything from poop to passion. Gail's on the 5th floor at CMPC if any of you feel like sending anything. She has a phone but didn't want to give it out quite yet. Family will be in tomorrow. Hawkins Preop / BMI 60 / 240 to lose / 150 lbs bound!
