Guest guest
You know, I DO have an opinion about the PECS and your son " standing out " . First of all, I don't mean any disrespect(bc we are in the same " boat " )but your son probably DOES stand out, regardless, and that's ok. I was worried about my daughter standing out when she starts school this Nov. I taught a first grader who had PDD-NOS and he definitely stood out in the school. But you know what? Now that he is in 5th grade, the teachers tell me he is the hero(and doing wonderfully BTW) of the school and everyone loves him! I think you need to do what is best for your son. You are going to be his mother for the rest of your life. He will be in that school for 6(?) years. If you think he would benefit from PECS, then I think you should push for the use of PECS. How do you know that the teachers just don't want to go to the extra work of PECS? That's what it sound like to me. He needs as much assistance while he is young to help him go as far in life as an adult. If that means he stands out for a few years, so what. Lots of children stand out for various reasons and usually are stronger for it. Good luck! Janelle Jane 2 1/2 PDD-NOS 1 NT
