Guest guest
I agree with what has been said about homeschooling. I too was teased unmercifully in school. I am also an aspie. What do I care for socialization like that? My children were also being teased. Aspies are different. We don't think like others. I firmly believe that ASD people are not retarded ever. They just can't express themselves in any form. I say that as I put my CP/PDD-NOS child in the state school for the severely retarded. I don't believe he is but they have the therapies he needs at this time. I homeschool 7 other children right now. 3 have Asperger's. I have 3 children in college. My 19 year old aspie is about to take the ACT. He will blow it away. He had the highest GED the local college has ever seen. He was 16 when he took it. My 17 year old is just like him. He too is an ASPIE. Boy is it hard to teach an Aspie! Don't get me wrong but you need to find the right motivators. When they finally decide what they want to know about there is no stopping them. My NT children are much easier to teach. They come with their books and papers ready. They do regular school work. We have the Internet. I teach them how to research what they want to know. We have blocks on unwanted sites. My Aspies march to different drummers. The nineteen year old knows every computer language there is. My 17 year old designs space ships. How did I get him to do math? Calculate the area of that ship please. Now if he wants to drive he needs to finish Algebra. To get his pilots license there will be other school subjects he will need to finish first. The 13 year old is a problem right now, but I let him learn what he wants when he is interested. Right now it is Art. If he ends up in life as an artist that is okay. He thinks in pictures. Our children do scouts, gymnastics, YMCA baseball, Dance, and we have a circle of friends group with other homeschoolers that go on field trips every Friday. In otherwords we choose good friends for our kids and put them in those circles. The circle of friends group is actually funded by the Dept of Health to help my boys learn social skills. They have a great mentor. Schools can fund cicle of friends and usually they are the ones to do it. Good luck with your decision. It was eaier to homeschool then fight the IEP battles.
