Guest guest
I had upper and lower a little over 13 months ago and though the surgery corrected my bite very well, it has become obvious that when I smile only about half of my upper teeth show while before I had a gummy smile. My surgeon explained that he only took bone off one side to level my upper jaw, but I think in combination with the braces it was too much. He says that my lips are crooked and that I should have surgery to bring up my lip on one side to show more of my teeth. I recently went to another jaw surgeon in my area for his opinion and he said my upper needs to come down about 3 or 4 mm because I don't show any teeth when my lips are open and relaxed. He said he would re-do my surgery to correct this and also move my mid-line over to soften the asyemmetry I have on one side. My original surgeon wanted to address the asymetry by shaving off the excess. So I have two different opinions that I need help with. Although very frustrating to go through this surgery the first time and still not be able to show-off my smile, I would not do it again purely for cosmetic reasons. I think I am also experiencing tightness and headaches because the position of my jaw is strained when I bite down and I favor the side that was not moved up when I chew. Does anyone have any suggestions or have the name of a surgeon who is nationally respected in doing second procedures? The two surgeons that I have seen in Atlanta apparently do about 150 jaw surgeries yearly. Mark
